Hi, I’m Don Mathews, singer, composer and guitarist. I perform and compose country and oldies rock and roll style music. As a solo artist my passion is singing and I enjoy finger-picking. I write songs with a meaning, mostly story songs. I have my own mellow sound probably closer to Elvis Presley than any other artist that I can name. In addition to my music, I''ve also been an Emergency Medical Technician most of my adult life. So far my greatest claim to fame is my internationally recognized song ‘Tribute to EMS’, which is featured on my first CD, ‘Memories of You’. A copy of the letter that I received from President George Bush is posted on my website. I’ve received letters and e-mails from EMS (Emergency Medical Services) personnel throughout the USA and from as far away as Australia.
I’ve released my first full CD,’ Memories of You’. I’m very pleased to be able to offer this CD through https://www.tradebit.com. I recently published my website https://www.tradebit.com which includes the lyrics to all of my original songs, a brief description of the thoughts that went into the writing of these lyrics, photos of some of my activities and interests, a schedule and other news and reviews. I’ve written eight more songs since I recorded this first CD and I’m looking forward to recording a second CD of originals. My band is coming together slowly, we''re still looking for a drummer. I was able to record my first CD with a wonderful group of musicians, but I would like to be able to perform my originals with my own band.
I’ve lived in Michigan all my life. Born in the Flint area, I spent my early years in Mount Morris and finished growing up in Utica. I’ve always been passionate about music. I remember listening to my mother sing and play country music, her favorite song was ’Old Shep’. My aunt had an old acoustic guitar and I began to play that when I was about nine. I saw a guitar and amp for sale in the barber shop window and begged my dad to get it, that’s how I got my first guitar. It was a 1964 Airline, it’s part of my collection and I still play it today. I was a member of a rock and roll band in high school. I wrote my first song, ‘I Had a Dream’, when I was seventeen.
I’ve been playing for friends and family for years until I had the opportunity to perform publicly at Scotts Jammin’ in December of 2004. I was hooked. Being back on stage inspired me to start writing again. My first CD release, "Memories of You," showcases eight of the songs I’ve written and four of my favorite cover tunes.
I’m a fan of both country and rock and roll. I’ve been inspired by many of the greats such as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Conway Twitty and of course the Beatles. I get a lot of requests for Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves and Alan Jackson just to name a few. Enjoy the music, check out my website and watch for the second CD to be out, hopefully soon.
