Details:
The year was 1989, Big Daddy Kane’s “ smooth operator” and The D.O.C’s “It’s funky enough” were playing all over KDAY and Yo’ MTV Raps. In those days emerged a rare new breed of hip-hoppers from Los Angeles, young chicano rappers. Attempting to enter the hip-hop game at all costs were two graffitti writers from the San Gabriel Valley (El Monte) area who decided one day to start writing hip-hop lyrics for fun. Eventually the fun became serious and in 1990 the D.O.P.E Mob was born.
Originally D.O.P.E stood for Devastating Other Poets Effectively, as time changed it became known as The Doped Out Psychopathic Entertainers Mob. Knowing dues had to be paid first the D.O.P.E Mob rocked many underground L.A. house parties and car shows to create a buzz on the west coast.
During the early 90’s when the streets of Los Angeles were still going insane, many young hispanics and blacks were getting caught up in the gang life style and many had lost their lives, including three members of the D.O.P.E Mob. This and many other misfortunate events have set the D.O.P.E Mob back but has never stopped them. In 2003, the D.O.P.E Mob regrouped and came back to finish what they’ve started, to hit the streets with raw underground west coast hip-hop from a brown man’s point of view. Rappers: Drastic One and Wicked Triggs hold you down with pure 100% Rhyme Narcotics for all the masses. Whatever you do, don’t sleep on the D.O.P.E. Mob, they’ve been paying dues and are not your average latino rap group. Hard beats and skill still matter, that’s why the D.O.P.E. Mob has arrived once again to help keep that real hip-hop alive.
