CUSTOMER REVIEWS:
"My sister loved her CD. She says you sing like an angel, and she''s right. I wrapped my Christmas presents to it, and it was delightful. But, needless to say, during "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," I was possessed to use way too much tape on that particular package!" – Debra Sapp-Yarwood, Kansas City, MO

"First let me start by saying "WOW"!!! I am really just at a loss for words and that rarely happens. So on behalf of the staff and all the residents here...THANK YOU!!

The Norah Long CDs were a huge hit and we ran out instantly. Every single resident here has asked for one." –

"That was the best holiday gift ever. Thanks so much. The whole thing is beautiful – and of course I was just undone by “Kindness.” Thanks a million, and congratulations on a terrific piece of work." – Jamie Bernstein Thomas, New York NY

"Whoop! Your cd just got here, listening to it now -- it''s beautiful.. . . your voice is gorgeous! Thanks:)" – Kathy Taylor Stell, Fayetteville GA

"We got your CD Sunday and absolutely love it! Congratulations!" – Diane Waldow, Plymouth MN

"Your cd is really a beautiful painting you created. Love it! You sound great, the instruments sound great and your gramma would be very proud. One of my favorites is "Here''s One." i love that song and i think your rendition of it is really beautiful." Vanessa Gamble, Minneapolis MN

"It''s beautiful -- from the cover through the music. Nobody can ''turn a phrase'' like Norah can. The inflections and meaning to the words are incredible. ... I would call this CD comfort food music to anyone who grew up hearing and singing hymns. The organ sounds like the organ in the sanctuary where my grandparents and parents worshipped." - Janet Scovill, Northwestern College (MN) music faculty

FUN FACTS, IN NORAH''S WORDS:
Violet Hill was the farm in Iowa where my grandmother grew up. Last year, when my grandmother passed away at the wonderful age of 105, I knew I wanted to do something to honor her memory and pay tribute to the amazing legacy of music and faith I inherited from her.

View From Violet Hill is a collection of what I call musical “comfort food,” but with a new twist, a sparkle of freshness and excitement that speaks both to me and about me as an artist. It’s about legacy in both directions – looking out across the vistas of the past and the future, what we’ve been given and what we will leave behind.

Five of the songs are brand new arrangements, and one song is an entirely new piece: a setting of Rudyard Kipling’s poem, “When Earth’s Last Picture Is Painted,” my gramma’s favorite poem, which I wrote in honor of her. This song is the first original solo piece I’ve ever produced, and I am excited to be able to include an original song on this album of favorites!

I’ve also included another exciting “first” – a song by Jamie Bernstein Thomas, Leonard Bernstein’s daughter. Jamie wrote what she calls “Kindness3” in honor of her parents, and it was performed the year of her father’s death, at his memorial concert in NYC. She generously gave me permission to arrange it for solo voice and record it here for the first time.

VIOLET HILL MUSIC OUTREACH:
In conjunction with the release of this, her debut album, Norah Long has founded a new outreach program which brings the healing power of music to those who need it, through the gifting of live concerts, personal visits, and recorded music.

Violet Hill Music Outreach serves people in hospice care, nursing homes, and homebound with prolonged illnesses, as well as low-income and homeless communities, families who have lost loved ones, people in crisis, and military personnel stationed overseas. Violet Hill’s mission is to help people reconnect – to their church community, to their emotions or faith, to inspiration, hope, joy, strength -- through the power of music.

This new outreach is currently funded entirely by donations. If you wish to donate in another person''s honor, we offer a mailable gift card stating that a gift of music has been given in their name through Violet Hill Music Outreach.
