Dawn Karima Pettigrew is Creek/Cherokee and belongs to the Panther/Tiger and Red Paint Clans. She is the author of two novels, THE WAY WE MAKE SENSE (San Francisco:Aunt Lute, 2002.) and THE MARRIAGE OF SAINTS (Norman:University of Oklahoma,2006.). She is the co-author of CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY READ (Cleveland:UCC,2003), a book about multiculturalism and spirituality in children''s literature.
Widely published as a poet and fiction writer, she is also an accomplished journalist, whose work appears regularly in INDIAN LIFE, NEWS FROM INDIAN COUNTRY, and WHISPERING WIND. A former Ms. Native American Worldwide winner, she has a B.A. from Harvard and the Master''s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Ohio State University.
She is a member of the Native Writers'' Circle of the Americas, Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers, National Indian Education Association, and the Native American Journalists'' Association. Featured in Who''s Who and Who''s Who Among Native Americans, she teaches Native American Studies and is active in modeling, film, television and the arts.
