Andy Duinker (Dunk''er)
Andy Duinker is a multi-faceted performer with a dynamic presentation to offer his listening audience. He performs his own original songs, contemporary folk songs, traditional ballads, Maritime-flavoured songs, songs that have stood the test of time and standard favourites. His extensive vocal range allows for both rich bass solos and lyrical tenor melodies to be handled with ease and fluidity.
Through the years Andy has been in great demand in a variety of singing groups. His experience in quartets, trios, barbershop ensembles, and community choirs afforded him the opportunity to create music in a variety of styles and settings. As a solo artist, he is able to draw on his musical experience to sing quiet ballads, lusty Stan Rogers tunes and everything in between. Andy''s ability to present songs with rich vocal texture, clarity of tone and smooth range transitions set him apart from the ordinary. He performs with confident comfort and quickly establishes an emotional connection with his listeners. His gentle wit and humorous anecdotes endear him to audiences of all ages and, combined with his musical presentation, create a performance that will be remembered long after the concert hall has emptied.
Andy is equally comfortable performing for adult, mixed family, and children''s audiences. In addition to being the featured vocalist in adult concert venues, he adds his vocal expertise to the duo "Donna & Andy". They have performed for children in schools, festivals, and concert venues across the country.
Andy has been involved in seven recording projects. "Fine Company" is an easy listening, contemporary traditional/Maritime/folk recording featuring Andy''s bass/baritone/tenor voice supported by Donna''s instrumental and vocal harmonies. Donna & Andy''s Computer Cat CD was the winner of the 2004 East Coast Music Award (ECMA) for Children''s Recording of the Year and garnered the duo a nomination for Children''s Artist of the Year from the Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia (MIANS).
In addition to performing and recording, Andy is active as a publisher and composer. Andy often co-writes with fellow performer and songwriter, Donna Rhodenizer. He and Donna co-own Red Castle Publishing, the company responsible for publishing and distributing their recorded and printed music. Andy and Donna arrange songs for their own performances as well as publishing their original songs as choir arrangements through the Rhodenizer & Duinker Choral series. Their attention to lyrical and singable lines for each vocal section make their music popular with choirs of all ages. Over 10,000 octavos and 1500 song books have been distributed to choirs across Canada and the US.
Andy''s professional performing skills are not confined to singing. He has ably performed the duties of MC, auctioneer, sports commentator and public speaker in a variety of settings. He is able to do all these jobs AND sing too, making him a handy man to have around at all public functions.
Andy lives in Cambridge with his wife Pam and their four children. He maintains a keen interest in the musical development and athletic pursuits of his children. His interest in aviation has been passed on to one of his sons who is studying to be a pilot. Andy''s interests have been a guiding force in his career pursuits. He was a Dance Instructor at a Fred Astaire Dance Studio, a Smoke Jumper in the Yukon, and has worked extensively in the carpentry field. He has been involved in several businesses, including his "I Scream" ice cream parlour, Shaklee Health Products distributor, and Atlantic Airsport Ultralight flying school. Andy was the manager of the Kings County Airport for almost a dozen years. In his youth he experienced the life of a farmer''s son and has also lived in the city of Toronto. Life experience is not lacking in this man, and he brings all of that experience to his performing career.

FINE COMPANY Review
Call of the Ocean,
is a new original song written by Donna Rhodenizer. This is songwriting at its finest. The lyrics are well crafted and will speak to those who love the ocean. They are set in a musical setting that sparkles and flows like the ocean itself.
Old Ways,
is a beautifully written song by three fine Cape Breton writers. Andy’s rich vocals are given “centre stage” accompanied only by piano. The CD is worth purchasing for this song alone!
Ode to the Fishermen,
written by John Gracie, showcases Andy’s vocal range as he multi-tracks all five parts himself. It is hard to believe that one voice can be so versatile, yet the proof is in the audio.
Sarah, Spinning Wheel and Jessie Munroe
are three light-hearted traditional songs offering some insight into young lovers facing the obstacles of restrictive courting regulations. These songs from the traditional repertoire are treated carefully to preserve their original flavour while adding enough contemporary flavour to create a nice blend of old and new.
The Love of the Sea,
written by Donna Rhodenizer, has had a solid response with thousands of copies of the printed version distributed across Canada. It has been recorded by other artists who have discovered this choral gem. The melody is indicative of Donna’s lyrical writing, handled with great sensitivity by Andy’s vocals. Violin and cello are added to the mix creating a lovely setting for a truly memorable piece of Canadian music.
My Love My Love,
also written by Donna, is written in the style of an old English ballad. From the haunting opening cello line to the tragic conclusion of the song, this tale of “love lost” will reach into the imagination of the listener. Andy’s passionate portrayal of the loyal lover only heightens the sense of loss at the story’s conclusion.
Shenandoah,
is an American folk song that has stood the test of time and remained a gem in the vocal repertoire of many singers. It is a perfect vehicle for Andy’s warm tenor voice and Donna’s multi-tracked harmony vocals.
Donna’s Aire,
is a gentle instrumental track that brings the CD to a pleasant close. It is hard to believe that this tune has not been in existence for a hundred years. The violin is given a chance to shine, supported by some of the finest studio musicians Nova Scotia has to offer.
On this recording there are a variety of vocal ranges offered, but there are only two singers. It is a solid performance from start to finish and a stellar debut album for Andy Duinker as a Contemporary Maritime solo performer. Whether you are a fan of Contemporary Maritime music or someone who just enjoys good music, you will enjoy this CD.
