Dances for Shamans brings a change in approach for Azara''s music. The rock elements and dense textures of previous works have largely been discarded. It is more meditative and orchestral in its scope. The aim has been to strive for an elegant simplicity. Each track is composed around a central core of drum rhythms like those used by native shamans around the world. Although the inspiration came from the simple percussion that they use, the rich instrumental sweep of the music has not been strait-jacketed by the concept and each composition has been allowed to grow organically and spiral out from its humble origins.
Although the track titles refer to the ecstatic dances used by shamans to enter into a trance and summon their spirit animals and elemental powers, it’s more a dance for the mind than the body. Still, it would be nice to think that it might connect people with something greater.
Immerse yourself in this music and visualise the landscapes it conjures up. His inspiration comes from the earth, trees, oceans and big skies, so just tune in and let yourself float.
