Details:
The Nine Point Circle EP is the first offering from London rock band Noxshi. The band deliver driving, structured riffs with winding vocal lines set within elemental soundscapes. There are references to the sounds and spirit of the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and King Crimson as well as strong elements of the post grunge sound. The diverse qualities of the guitar driven music are fused together by delicately layered vocal harmonies and powerfully evocative melodies. Hard hitting riffs progress into imaginative gentle passages demonstrating the bands wide range of expressive modes.

Yoriyos provides vocals and constructs soundscapes for the project. Noxshi developed after the 2007 release of Yoriyos’ “Bury my heart at Wounded Knee” album and sees him once again draw upon his strong melodic sensibilities. Hallam Kite applies brittle guitar tones with control and purpose. Hallam previously contributed to Bristol based Gonga’s second album “Transmigration”. The solid bass presence is ensured by Alexander Gabay who was brought in from Gothenburg. Known for his unorthodox style, Alex recently toured the EU with the Swedish band Chikan. Completing the lineup is Karim Nashar who plays kit having performed at both the Reading and Leeds Festival in 2008 with Tiger Shadow.

Formed during the process of recruiting a group to tour Yoriyos’ solo work and developed in their North London rehearsal studio, the band use direct harmonised riffs and melodic passages over shifting tonal centers. The music explores scale harmony, modes and improvisation. The lyrics are aspirational with an intimate conversational quality. The loyal friendship of the musicians translates into a coherent focused musical unit. The band name Noxshi is loosely derived from an area of the Caucasus, a region generally perceived to represent the meeting of Eastern and Western worlds.

A lot happens in 22 minutes. The tracks Citizen P.S.I and X are driven by heavy guitars and combine with the fragmented Livmoder to present the solid rock core of the project. Contrasting with this harder edge is the wonderfully lush and melodic Aliyah that shows the presence of true songwriting skills. The diverse elements on display are intertwined with the innate folk sensibility of the vocal. Ambient and chromatic passages bleed together amid the low grinding drones of the spheres.

The Nine Point Circle EP was recorded at Livingstone studios and mixed at Kensaltown studios in the winter of 2008.
