Details:
Robert Taylor Baggott IV is a classically trained Tenor, composer and songwriter. He was born in Miami, FL on March 28, 1986, and has also lived in Naperville, IL and Plymouth, MN. After growing singing in church choirs with his Dad preaching every Sunday and at home the whole family singing while Dad played guitar and Mom played piano, he was immersed in music at a very young age, he would always sing the boy soprano solo "Once in Royal David''s City" on christmas eve . Taylor started playing stand up bass in 4th grade and eventually went to electric, his confidence in voice and performing started to show when he played Tamino in a puppet version of "The Magic Flute" in 5th grade, his first opera! Then, after hearing the MN Boychoir sing at his elementary school that same year, he knew singing was for him and decided to audition, singing and touring around the the world with them for 5 years, going from boy soprano to high tenor, he sang many solos, this was an integral part of his training. While attending Wayzata High School he played leading roles in musicals such as: Grease, Godspell, Once Upon a Mattress, The Mikado, Fiddler on the Roof and Wayzata''s first opera Hansel and Gretel, acted in Bryce Jasper''s one act and directed one himself. In his time at Wayzata he also sang with the A Cappella group Circle of Fifths and performed with the Improv Troupe. One of his first songs he ever wrote, "Changin" was featured on the cd of original songs by WHS students called "Anything But Generic". In between High School and College he formed a semi-professional vocal band called Righteous Harmony and gigged around the country. He got his undergrad at St. Olaf College where he he graduated in 2008 with a B.M. Vocal Performance major. This is where his songwriting and passion for his own music really took flight. While on the hill he sang in Viking Chorus under the direction of Robert Scholz, was a gospel and classical soloist with the world renowned St. Olaf Choir which he sang in for 3 years, under the direction of Anton Armstrong and for a semester, Craig Hella Johnson. On his own time he continued his passion for A Cappella, singing with groups such as the Limestones, Viking 6, Hoyme Utility Barbershop Quartet, and The Holy Stones. During his summers off from school he toured, sang and did vocal percussion for the professional vocal band InPulse. Many a gig was played at random open mics and the Lions Lair acoustic stage. He has studied voice with Dale Kruse and Robert Smith, and Regina Zona. He also studied classical piano with Nancy Paddleford, Jazz piano with Laura Cavianni and Jazz/Blues guitar with Tom O''Hara. Some of his opera roles include Count Belfiore in Mozart''s La Finta Giardiniera and Don Jose in Carmen. In ''06 and ''08 he won first place in NATS singing competition. In Fall of ''08 he attended Grad School at the University of Minnesota Duluth for vocal performance, where he continued to study opera and musical theater, the role of Fenton in Falstaff, singing in a childrens musical called "The Pirates of the Carrot Bean", singing in the jazz choir Chill Factor, and playing solo gigs around Duluth. After a semester, he realized his true calling was in doing his own music. He currently resides in the Twin Cities adn is pursuing his solo career. So far he has been writing lots of music, collaborating, sitting in with bands like Doctor Salty and the R Factor, gigging, and recording. He even recorded a RnB/Hip Hop track with the rapper slolo. He has released over 3 studio Albums and tries to explore every style of music under the sun...and moon...and stars. But is heart has always beated for blues, soul, and gospel. Coming from a family of preachers, probably has something to do with this. Aside from being an Entertainer, Taylor also writes lots of poetry, is currently writing a book and his own screenplay/musical/opera of his emotional journey of life through music. Taylor also goes under stage names and persona''s such as Bobby "Blues" Bomba, Bobby Taylor, Robbie Taylor, Taylor Roberts, Taylor Robertson, and Taylor "The Magician". His band members and all his friends along the way are the SOul seARchers.
