I’ve been asked for several years now when it was that I first thought about being a singer and when it all began. Honestly, I’m not sure if I ever made the conscience decision to be what I am now, a singer/songwriter, and performer.
The first memory I have of performing is when I was 5 years old. I was invited (more or less) to sing and play guitar on the Bill Swain Television Show in Ohio. (I’m not sure why I was on the show to begin with. I think it must have had something to do with my Mom being good friends with Mr. Swain.) Nevertheless, I sang and played guitar, as my little sister cried off stage. (she was supposed to sing with me but chickened out!) I remember giving the worst (if not only) male version of the classic song “Delta Dawn”, which to this day still haunts me as a favorite request when I am performing locally. I suppose I could be remembered for worse.
I’m not sure where music fit into my life for the following 6 or 7 years, Atari, Legos, and the new family swimming pool seem to be the only memories of that time that I have. But when I was about 12, seventh grade for sure, I was asked by a couple of friends to help them with a performance for the annual Talent Show at our school. It just so happened that one of the fellows was my new Brother-in-laws brother, Robin. Somehow back then, I think we thought we were related; in some respects, I think we were. Anyhow, he and his neighbor Rick and cousin Brian were putting together a band for the show and had heard that I thought I could sing, (I’m not sure if I could or not) and they asked me to join them. We called ourselves, EXCEL.
For weeks and weeks, we practiced the hit rock-and-roll tune Jonnie B. Goode in the bedroom of then drummer Brian. I don’t think to this day I have ever sang the same song more in such a short amount of time. Long story short, the song was a great success at the Talent Show, so we decided to make a thing of it, adding new songs to our practices on a weekly basis.
After several years, a few changes in band members, and the release of our first (and only single) Promise Me/Time to Explain, my music career was born.
Twenty some years later and a few thousand shows, I have found myself on one of the most fabulous rides anyone could ask for. I have been blessed with the privilege of being on stage with some of the most talented, yet underrated musicians in the country. Rock, blues, acoustic, country; you name it. I have performed with bands and as a solo act both locally and around the country. From the Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana area, to Nashville, Colorado and as far south as Key West Florida, music has been my calling, my being, my life.
My current album NO MATTER WHAT, has been a labor of love for nearly 2 years. A mixture of contemporary country, country pop and southern rock songs, there promises to be something for everyone to enjoy.
