I began teaching myself to play the acoustic piano way back in 1964 while at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Way back then a person could use the pianos located in the music department with out any trouble.
I got to the point where I could play the songs I preferred which were songs from the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s with a few from recent times. All easy listening/romantic type music from the likes of Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, and many others of this type. I could play the melody and improvise using the chords above.
I bought an acoustic baby grand piano in 1975 and began composing songs but these could only be recorded on a tape player. Unfortunately I can not read music nor notate so unless I recorded the songs they were gone forever. The problem was to that the quality was bad. But I would impress my wife and our friends and family.
In the meantime I married and we had five children: the oldest is a PhD college professor of History, the second, a son, we lost to a brain tumor in 1991 and had his wake and his 18th birthday on the same day, and He was a brilliant computer programmer among other things. He could operate and write programs for those wonderful (now paperweights) like Radio Shacks Color Computer. He could look at lines of code and tell what was wrong. He could also play 8 games of chess at the same time with, of course, 8 competitors and not forget what he was doing; He was also able to take piano lessons and could play pretty well. Our next two children we adopted from Korea. Our son is now a Sushi Chef in Pittsburgh Pa. He went to the Pittsburgh Art Institute and did pretty well but never applies for a job in the art field (who knows why); he was two when we got him. Our daughter was 8 when she arrived and is a sales woman in a local department store. Our last son was born afflicted with Down’s syndrome and some forms of autism. He is 25 now. Unfittingly my wife of 35 years was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2003 and after a long horrible battle passed away in May of 2006.
After she passed away I purchased a digital piano and finally (being a guy born in the BC(before computers) finally got the piano hooked up to the computer so that the midi files could be saved and later changed to SP#3.
In February of 2009 a long time friend passed away. He and his wife were dear friends of my wife and I for over 20 years. His widow was devastated by his death, of course, as they had been married for 43 years.
His widow and I who had been friends for over 20 years and both of us were not looking for any new relationship since I have been a widower for 3 years and she, newly widowed. As divine inspiration would have it and what the title of this album is all about, we found that we had a connection that finally led to us to falling in love which at 65+ is a different sort of matter than at 20. So that all of the songs in this album have been inspired by my love for her. So I hope you listeners find them worthy.
