BIO
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, singer/songwriter Christy Bruneau uprooted and relocated to San Diego in 1995 to pursue singing. Frequently categorized as a folk/blues singer, Christy''s talent and range are far more diverse-more Folk/Rock Americana with musical influences extending from Patsy Cline to The Black Crowes. She prefers to polish her edgy, distinctive yet familiar sound (she is often likened to Natalie Merchant, Ricki Lee Jones, and her favorite Stevie Nicks) with attention on raw, honest introspection, and pure playing.
Settling in San Diego allowed for Christy''s creative process to flourish. Armed with a guitar and a handful of songs, she quickly found herself frequenting San Diego coffeehouses such as Java Joe''s, Twigg''s, Claire De Lune''s and more, while showcasing with local singer/songwriters Jason Mraz, Anya Marina, Lisa Sanders and Gregory Page.
In 1997 she initiated and headed her first alternative band, The Dharma Bumz, as well as playing solo acoustic shows. Her second music project was in 2001 in which she collaborated with veteran player and recording artist, Robert Edwards, and friend Charlie Ruse. The project was titled The Unknown Poets. This teaming resulted in her first self-released CD entitled Angels of Mercy - an eclectic collection of songs fusing folk, bluegrass, roots and 60s rock. (Songs from the CD Angels of Mercy are featured in the independent film by director Sven Pape, L.A. Twister, which will be at the Toronto Film festival this year)
Christy is currently recording her self-titled CD with Producer/Musician Tommy Andrews and playing live shows in Southern Californi with her new band.
