So what’s it all about then?
Well I guess it started in mid 2007 - I was in a covers band doing the usual stuff that cover bands do - brainless versions of ‘Smoke On The Water’ and ‘Wishing Well’ followed
by requests for ‘The Hunter’ and Tina Turner songs!
“Oh dear god! What am I doing” - was the last thought as I drifted off to sleep after my post gig glass of milk! I’d been writing songs for a while and at that time probably had two or three songs that were actually OK - trying to play them in the band though was proving difficult. Don’t get me wrong - I did have a great time with my very best friend for a long time but we hardly really saw each other between gigs and getting everybody to agree and
have creative input was impossible. So Christmas came and the band went, it was going to happen anyway - the lead guitarist went to live in the land of the free, and the rhythm section wasn’t really seeing eye to eye - it was time to say goodbye.
So that was it, I still had a passion to play and was sure that there were more songs inside waiting to be let out, I kept writing and recording hoping that the next song would be better than the last! Eventually they turned out pretty much as I wanted them to, and it was time for them to be heard.
But I needed a name. I didn’t want to use my own name - I had more than me in mind and didn’t want the focus to be just one person, the idea is that the songs should stand on
their own regardless of who plays them - the same songs should work if I play them or if they’re played as a duo or a trio.
Originally I picked ‘Gregory Hague’ - a mix of family surnames from the past but it still sounded like one person, so ‘Gregory’ was dropped and ‘Hague’ remained
- sorry dad and thanks mum!
The rest is - well - to come!
Mark Stenton.
