Details:
Originally from Glasgow, Rebecca was drawn to the lever harp (or Celtic harp, or Clarsach) over fifteen years ago, after hearing it in Scottish folk music. Also an accomplished poet and playwright, she has had work produced in Glasgow, New York City and in Liverpool, where she currently lives. Around 2004 she began combining her musical and writing activities to form the harp and spoken-word pieces that you hear today. Inspired by folklore, childhood memories, cities, sadness and magic, her work captivates all who hear it. She performs at venues and festivals throughout the UK, has been featured on BBC radio and has composed music for theatre productions. Her words and music have prompted comparison to artists such as Laurie Anderson, Yann Tiersen, Joanna Newsom, John Martyn and Belle and Sebastian, even once being described as an angelic Tom Waits. Her work possesses all the grace and beauty which may be expected of the harp, yet has a contemporary edge, infused with a sense of theatricality, delicate darkness and wit.
‘Her harp, her words and her voice are an absolute joy to listen to. The song Stars Got Stuck is remarkably poignant and startlingly striking in its delivery and instrumentation. The stark wording set against a delightful shower of chimes, harmonics and soaring chord progressions is utterly beguiling’

‘Fascinatingly complex, audacious and at times brain-poppingly clever work.’
