GINNY PETERS. THE JOURNEY.
Ginny would be the quiet achiever of New Zealand Country Music. Having had a great deal of success with her writing and singing over the past number of years with "THE JOURNEY" featuring a few of her recorded songs.
For example, the song, "I ONLY SEE YOU" has been recorded eleven times by artists in, England (1), USA (3), Australia (1), and New Zealand (6). "IN THE ARMS OF A MEMORY" has had similar coverage and in 1994 was a top ten hit in Australia as recorded by Brian Letton and helped propel him to the Tamworth Golden Guitar Male Vocal of the year final in that year.
On "THE JOURNEY", 14 of the tracks are by artists from the USA, Australia and New Zealand with 1 by Ginny herself. Among these artists are, Nashville CMA Hall of Fame member, Cliffie Stone, Australian award winning artists Brian Letton and Craig Byrne along with multi platinum selling New Zealand vocalist, Dennis Marsh.
Ginny has recorded for several labels herself, such as Epic, RCA, Allied International and Viking in New Zealand.
In the US she has recorded for Evolve, Trend and Playback. Her recording of "Freight Train" for Playback in the US made the Cashbox top 100 in 1988 as did her following single, "Old Fashioned Lover".
Rajon records have just re-released some of Ginny''s tracks in New Zealand and Australia on the boxed set, "The Great Kiwi Country".
In the liner notes for "THE JOURNEY" Walt Trott, (editor AFM''S Nashville Association of Musicians newspaper) writes;
Sweet and unassuming, Ginny Peters is a gifted poet with a guitar, one who possesses a great generosity of spirit and flair for expressing the simple things of life with a tendertwist. Truly her songs have heart, an essential of any good country ballad, exemplified by the title track, peeressly showcased by Nashville''s, Kimberly Bibb-Marrs.
"THE JOURNEY" is an excellent round-up of songs penned by a New Zealand country music pioneer and definitely belongs in your CD collection (and mine). Meanwhile, for visionary Ginny Peters "The Journey" continues.
