Details:
Phil Jordan became interested in playing trumpet upon hearing a local band director play the classic Dixieland tune, Sugar Blues during a band performance in elementary school. He begged his father for a trumpet, received one, and began playing in the 7th grade. His love for the instrument grew quickly and he excelled in his playing through his junior year in high school. In the summer before his senior year he was swimming with friends and experienced a bad diving accident which knocked out his front teeth. He had to quit playing.
After working in construction and landscaping for a few years out of high school, he decided to enroll in the local junior college and began playing trumpet once again. He joined the Mount San Antonio College jazz band under the direction of Steve Wilkerson and within a few months he was sharing the lead trumpet book with a new found friend, Duane Enriques. In this band he reconnected with a previous high school colleague and trumpet player, Gino Munoz. That year the band earned first place at the Berkley Jazz festival. During this time, Phil studied with former member of the Stan Kenton orchestra and trombone genius, Dick Shearer.
During his second semester at Mount Sac., Phil met and befriended Insted bass player Rich Labbate. It was Rich who introduced Phil to the band No Doubt. Phil played and toured with No Doubt for a few years. He played trumpet on the Tragic Kingdom and Beacon Street Collection CD releases before moving on to ambitions of a more personal nature. Although Phil left the band No Doubt, he was still fairly active in the studio over the course of a few years. he played trumpet on The Offspring''s, Americana and Splinter CDs. He also did a short Canadian tour with the band. Since, Phil has recorded trumpet for American Idol runner-up, Kimberly Locke, Toots and the Maytals and many others. For playing trumpet on the Toots and the Maytals CD, True Love, he won a Grammy award for Best Reggae album of the year.
During his No Doubt years, Phil decided to continue his educational pursuits at Citrus College. It was there he met trumpet master and mentor, Bob Slack. Mr. Slack introduced Phil to the trumpet method of William Adam. This trumpet method gave Phil a context in which to pursue any desirable goal. Since he has completed a bachelor''s degree in music performance from CSU Long Beach and two master''s degree''s, one in commercial music from CSU Los Angeles and the other in K-12 education from Argosy university.
This CD, Eight Lanes Wide was composed to fulfill requirements for the master''s degree earned from CSULA, in commercial music. It serves as a personal message regarding the politics currently unfolding in our great nation today, the United States of America.
