Details:
Angela Hope comes from the land where singing divas are made. She discovered her love of music as a child growing up in Los Angeles listening to Eddie Kendricks, Minnie Riperton, Earth, Wind and Fire, Al Green and Marvin Gaye.
Her early exposure to gospel music came from singing in the choir at church. She developed a closeness and affection for gospel by listening to artists like Walter Hawkins and James Cleveland.
Angela carried these influences with her to UCLA to study English. She was discovered by celebrated Theatre Arts Professor, Beverly Robinson, who cast her as the second soprano in a production of James Weldon Johnsons, God’s Trombones. She landed a role as Tisha Campbell’s understudy in the play, The High Life staged at the landmark Coronet Theatre. Angela became the lead when Ms. Campbell departed before the musical opened. The production was a huge success and led to a meeting with legendary soul singer, Barry White. He was impressed by Angela’s ability to write and sing a song with a sultry “flavor.” He selected her as one of his background singers. The range of Angela’s singing, acting and songwriting talent became well- known. She was soon singing demos for producers shopping for artists from Jody Watley to Tracy Spencer.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Angela began writing pop songs and training as a jazz musician with Cathy Segal-Garcia. Ms. Segal-Garcia’s tutelage led to many local jazz gigs with legendary jazz musicians, Barry Zweig, Richard Simon and Tom Garvin.
As her first writing collaboration, she teamed with Nick Trevisick (Five Star) and created the powerful dance tune, “Positively Love.” The song, recorded by Miari, was released by Aureus/Warlock Records. Angela’s writing with guitarist, Barry Zweig, include the classic ballad, “I Could Be In Love.”
Angela is a well-trained and seasoned singer, songwriter and performer with a style that can’t be placed into one category. Simply put, Angela is an artist.
