Details:
“Kathleen Hannan is never just a performer on stage. She makes music that makes community.” Sarah Lauren Palmer, The Independent Weekly, Durham, NC

Kathleen Hannan is the winner of the North Carolina Arts Council Songwriter Fellowship. Her songs are a joyful celebration of diversity, nature and community that reach deep into the heart of life. Reviewer Mickey Carter (Out In the Mountains, Burlington, VT) writes, "I found myself wishing that more songwriters had Hannan''s gift of truth and gentle defiance, and that more singers had the courage to give life to such a message of spirituality, love, and passion."

“Count My Heart/Kathleen Hannan & Friends” features her award winning songs Maria, about reclaiming Mary as the Goddess and Been Here Forever, a GLBT liberation rock anthem, as well as If You Ever Loved, which eloquently voices the spiritual truth that people of no particular religion or sexual preference have a corner on Love. The song has been recorded and toured internationally by Canadian artist Lucie Blue Tremblay.

The joyful title cut Count My Heart celebrates the first democratic elections in South Africa in 1994, but it could equally have been written to celebrate the Obama election of 2008. The song was featured in the national folk music journal “Sing Out”.

The long list of talented musicians on Count My Heart includes: Toddie Stewart, Beth Shulman, Sheila Fleming Warner, Rachel Ann Cross, Jaqui MacMillan, Robin Burdulis, Ariana Lightningstorm, Diana Sunday and Amikaeyla Proudfoot Gaston of the DC based band Kiva, James Benson, Doug Karger, Sonya Lewis, Beverly Bottsford, Sonia Stewart, Bob Vasile, Kari Thomas Kovick, Matt Van Hoose, and Karen Kelly. The album was co-produced by Kathleen and Sheila Warner Fleming, and was funded by contributions from the North Carolina community, plus a Mary Duke Biddle Foundation Grant.

Kathleen Hannan is the founder and director of the Bodies, Voices & Spirit Choruses of Durham and Carrboro/Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

"I left your show feeling like my heart was expanded and uplifted and that''s my favorite way to leave a concert!"
