My very first band, the "George Grant Boptet" in which I played from 1948 through 1952, in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area where I grew up, was, perhaps , the best band I ever played in. All the other members were veteran jazz players, and George hired me, green as I was, because he thought I had an ear for the kind of Harmonies people were starting to play. What a great opportunity to learn! After a number of years in southern California, I came To Des Moines in 1970, and have had the good fortune to play with excellent musicians here. I''ve worked solo, in trios and quartets, and quite a lot with vocalists, including my partner in the present band called "Sabrosa," Morgan Halgren. I guess you could say that the modern harmonies are still an important element in the music for me. I am, and we are, available for private parties, weddings, business receptions and other events.
