MP3 Donna Konsorado - Skylines

Country roots

13 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Country Folk, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
Donna Konsorado''s roots in Western Canada stretch from her home on Vancouver Island to the wide landscape of Saskatchewn. She first heard frailing-style banjo on the porch of a log cabin in the hills of 100 Mile House, played by some wayfaring stranger. With a rodeo cowboy for a father, she listened to country tunes around the house and occasionally at local honkytonks. Donna was part of the Trout Creek Pickers in the 70''s - which included musicians like Lesley Schatz.

Donna''s unique style of folk music reveals her prairie roots, and embraces the sensibilities of the coastal landscape. Her repertoire includes country and folk music, with a growing proportion of original material. She has done her part to maintain the frailing banjo style, but interchanges an acoustic guitar during performances. As well as being a performing musician, Donna has set up many concerts in the Nanaimo area for local and traveling musicians, including: Ben Sures, Terry Morrison, & Ian Tamblyn. Donna plays solo as well as increasingly in tandem with Ken Hamm, and her husband Bill Konsorado.

Her debut disc, Skylines, is a collection of original compositions ranging from banjo instrumental to swinging guitar-led commentary on impertinent Alberta cowboys. Donna''s vocals and banjo can also be heard on Ken Hamm''s recording Cross the River which presents one of her songs as the title track. She has recorded with the Wake Up Jacob Band on the Rough But Honest Miner project, and most recently, on Hamm''s latest recording Fingerlicks. Donna has opened for Lester Quitzau, Allen Dobb, the Laws, and Willie P. Bennett.
