“Prana: Volume One, the first compilation album in a series of releases from San Francisco’s Prana restaurant and Temple Music Group, delivers a rare combination of established artists and fresh talent primed to push the boundaries of modern sound”

Like its namesake restaurant, this exotic musical blend reinterprets the traditional with refreshingly unexpected results. Traveling across genres, from down tempo jazz to house and electronic dance music, the first in this collaborative series features top locally produced artists, each with a distinct sound.

Forming the compilation’s aural backbone, Temple SF Music Director and Resident Artist JasWho? (a.k.a. Jay Williams) weaves his signature sound – once labeled by URB magazine as “a funkier naked music” – throughout the album on both solo and collaborative tracks. One half of the indomitable duo Black Wangz, JasWho? also appears on this album under that moniker with longtime Bay Area DJ and collaborator Durben (a.k.a. Ben Tom). Whether he’s producing or laying down beats, JasWho? is regularly recognized as one of the industry’s forward-thinking musicians. It should come as no surprise that he stands behind some of the top deep house, dirty disco and broken beat tracks hitting the charts today.

Whether she performs in the guise of fierce, goddess-like musical alter ego Inanna or under her own name, Philly-born and L.A.-based singer-composer Tracy Amos delivers music with a rock-tinged soulfulness and an infectious rhythm that is nothing if not aggressive in its grooviness. Her unmistakable sound and uncrushable spirit have propelled Amos on tours with a enviable roster of rock veterans, including Guns ‘N Roses, Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz.

With a list of influences that reads like a loaded iTunes library on shuffle (think everyone from the Carpenters to Prodigy), Isabel Lozano graces the collection with the captivating vocals that have led her from her early days rocking crowds and television screens as the front woman for Filipino rock band Razorback to songwriting and churning out lead vocals for Bay Area electronic group Protection.
