Details:
Hi, I’m Josie I started playing the guitar late in life and started writing my own songs soon after.
All my songs are copyrighted by IMRO Irish Music Rights Association
My album ‘Better Days’ relates to some of my life experiences.
Track 1 – Mickey’s Dream
The song is about a friend of mine Mickey who started a team called Dynamo it starred a few of the local boys who played in a local soccer league.
Track 2 – The Chip Van
First fleadh I ever went to in Listowel in Co Kerry, Ireland…… The town was packed & restaurants were full. It was difficult to find somewhere to find something to eat and then we found a Massive Chip Van were we ate for 4 days!!
Track 3 – Maggie Brown
This song is about a couple from Ireland who met and married in England.
Track 4 – Better Days
This is the title trace of my album and was inspired by daily news items about old people getting beat up and robbed in their own homes usually by young people looking money for drugs etc. and about a general breakdown in society if it’s not stopped.
Track 5 – Brown Eyes
This little song is just about how I met my wife in a Funfair 35 years ago.
Track 6 – Hilden
Hilden is about a Mill Village where I was born it consisted of 3 rows of houses, A school built beside the River Lagan & a Linen Mill……..at one time it was the larges linen mill in Europe & the village was thriving and now its all gone even the little school has just closed in recent months.
Track 7 – Monday Club
Most towns in Ireland have a pub were people go to on a Monday instead of work and they discuss the same football matches, films etc…. every week, these are called Monday Clubs.
Track 8 – Come back to Co Antrim
Now and again I’ve had to live away from home and anytime I’ve been away I couldn’t wait to get back to home… Co Antrim.
Track 9 – Francie’s Banjo
Some friends and I play in a session with every Tuesday night, Francie McReynolds and I started the session we haven’t missed a Tuesday night in 14 years. Francie’s Banjo can be heard playing on the Monday Club Track.
Track 10 – Sandy Row to Ballina
This is my personal favourite track and one I never tire of playing. It is based on a true story of a friend of mine who played in protestant flute bands and later come upon a folk session in Ballina, Co Mayo while on a fishing trip and realised that he knew all the tunes and was able to join in. He later played nothing but traditional irish music and give up the flute bands and now lives in Holland.
I hope you get as much fun and enjoyment
out of listening to my album as I did out of making it……
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my friend Gerry Morgan (Mor Music) it would not have been possible without his
help and guidance.
Good Luck & Thank You, Josie :O)
