Details:
After a two decade vacation from the recording scene, Johnny Jay Huhta, aka Johnny Jay is back in the game with a new CD featuring six new original tunes and six old Country favorites. He''s a 2006 inductee into the Original Rockabilly Hall of Fame and a recent recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Minnesota Rock/Country Hall of Fame for his contribution to the music, recording and entertainment industry. A Duluth, Minnesota native, Johnny is often referred to as the Godfather of northern, original Rock N'' Roll and Rockabilly music, having had the first recording from the area released nationally and internationally on a major label, "Tears"/ "Sugar Doll", Mercury Records, 1957.
The songs for this new CD were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee this past summer at Dog Ear Studios with Jamie Laritz engineering. Joining John for the session was his brother Max Lee, ace guitarist from Ironwood, Michigan and another brother, Mike Wesley Huhta, who flew in from Arlington, Washington to help with production. A nephew, Mark Huhta, Nashville singer, songwriter, and musician, laid down the steel and dobro licks. Johnny wrote "I Never Did Not Love You", "Chloe" and four others for this disc and sings some hit tunes recorded by some country greats such as Don Gibson''s, "Just One Time" and Waylon Jenning''s, "Stop The World". At times it''s hard to tell the originals from the covers due to the artists unique ability to make any song his own.
Johnny''s been around the block a few times and has had the honor to perform on the same stage with country icons Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynnette and Jim Reeves and many others.
Johnny Jay Huhta dealt himself out of the music game a few years back to pursue other interests but he just couldn''t stay away and he''s back in the game once again with a great new CD....take a listen.
