At a impressionable young age I saw Kiss on TV, I think it was Phantom of the Park. I think subconciously after seeing that, I wanted to be doing music. I didn''t actually pick up a guitar until around age 12 when my Mother bought an accoustic one for herself. I think I seriously started learning it at 13 when my neighboor and childhood friend
Ross Hamlin started playing, I thought that was cool and so with my little crate amp and Westone guitar, I proceded to learn as much and as fast as I could. Ross had figured out how to play a kiss riff by then and had achieved cool kid status at school so that was also part of it. I think it was Heavens on Fire. So that was part of the inspiration certainly. I started out like everyone else learning Smoke on the Water and Iron Man, and progressed
from there to AC/DC riffs and parts of Zeppelin songs. If I remember right my first garage band in high school knew modified versions of about ten songs or so. The thing was; we would actually write originals and play those to supplement our "set" so we ended up as kind of a favorite party band back in the day. We had the most offensive name possible. The Gonads. We did a thing on local TV and we had to change it to "Neferious Mayhem" just for that day. Anyways that was in Mound Minnesota. A totally small town out in the outer rim of the suburbs of
Minneapolis Minnesota.
When I was older my first Bar band was Vigilante, which only played out a small handfull of times and was a variety cover band doing rock covers. The next notable project was a band variously called "Father" and played out as "Overdrive" not to be confused with the national act Overdrive. This was an original heavy metal heavy rock act featuring Local Mpls Singer Chris Hawkee who has since had some local success. After Chris left the band it inspired me to start singing again. I proceeded to take opera/classical lessons for a year and hit every open mic jam I could fit into my schedule. This ended up turning into a project with Barry Cole and Jerry Babcock at the Terminal and Spring Street Bars in Minneapolis. It was short lived and after a few years I struck out on my own with a project I called BBQ , I played as the lead singer and guitarist as a three piece and eventually played at Huelett Wyoming during Stugis Bike week. For about 100 or so people. I remember we all thought it was going to be huge, but it was just a little show. It was still fun although the tornado that came thru that night was a little too close for comfort. Surviving this I later reformed my trio as Several Sinners and had a small run in the city with the best show being the one we did at Mayslacks. This was with Joe Simmons on Drums
and my Cover band sidekick Patrick McCauley on Bass. Joe would later be instrumental in helping me record the
Doing Fine CD. After this show my friend Patrick and I formed a coverband called Headband. After playing as Several Sinners I began recording Doing Fine in 2002 and finishing the actual mixing in 03 After recovering from a nasty divorcee in which I became almost homeless, I finally managed to pay off things from it and produce this first Album Doing Fine, all of the tracks are about my life experiences with women. From total Betrayal to
total Desire; its all in there. "I Know" is dedicated to my ex-wife. Rolling Stone and Puerto Rican Lady are about a beautiful woman I knew, but never had a chance with.
The other songs are about various beautiful women I;ve had the luck to be with. The only song not about anyone is "The Next One" which is about my bitter phase I went thru after my divorcee. Whatever doen''t kill you only makes you stronger. Anyways I;m now working on the next CD and hope to release that by next spring 2010. I;m also working on some "free" tracks of just jamming instumentals that will range from metal to jazz styles.
I;m also working on releaseing a "free" classical piece I;ve been working on for the last year. Its a Bach piece. When I say "free" I;m just saying anyone will be able to download it at my various sites for free. So if your still reading this thanks for your time.
I''m hopeing to actually play out this year in promotion of the Doing Fine CD somewhere in Minneapolis, so keep on listening and remember to enjoy life as much as you can.
Thanks to all my listeners and fans.
