Singer-Songwriter James Below Releases Debut Album “I Once Was Told”
A talented new voice fulfills a yearning of classical music with a contemporary edge that provides easy family listening and touches the inner child in all of us.
Singer-Songwriter James Below’s 2009 album “I Once Was Told” gives lullabies an exciting new look and new sound by turning the lullaby album into a storybook album.
With an 18 piece orchestra, recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, Ca, “I Once Was Told” musically bridges the generational gap and allows the listener to be a child again and evoke the emotions where anything is possible.
Below produced and created this album as a cross between the old pop standard album that used a live orchestra and the feeling of an animated film. He calls it a storybook album because the stories we grow up with are the stories we pass on to the generations that follow, and as time passes we continue to find the deeper means to each story we loved as a child.
With only a few weeks since its release, “I Once Was Told” has already developed a fan base, including celebrity mom and star of “Gossip Girl” Kelly Rutherford and Executive Producer of "Chicago" (Academy Award) and "Hairspray" Craig Zadan. “’I Once Was Told’ is a beautiful album,” says Rutherford “I listen to it with my son and it is something both he and I can enjoy.” Zadan says, "James Below''s debut album ''I Once Was Told'' is a treasure. It''s filled with soaring melodies, inventive lyrics and poignant vocals--all courtesy of Mr. Below''s glorious and multi-faceted gifts."
“I Once Was Told” is filled with all original music. “I wanted to create something cinematic, majestic, and nostalgic,” says Below. The album begins with an original nursery rhyme that sets the mood for the listener. Each song is its own story that allows the listeners imagination to play it’s own movie.
It’s been lamented that lullabies have been lost in the 21st century. With Below’s background in music (graduate of UCI music school) and work for the Walt Disney Company he crafted a new way of bringing culture and inspiration into our lives with music.
