“The voice always distinctly and uniquely belongs to Ben Abrahamson. I’ve had the privilege of watching that voice develop from the beginning. The recordings … show the maturity that this gifted composer and accomplished technician has achieved, while they hint at the path ahead.”
-Gary Lee Joyner
Since debuting his compositions at a Minneapolis coffeehouse at age 13, guitarist Ben Abrahamson has made steady waves in the Twin Cities with his virtuosity and mature instrumental writing. By 14, Ben had recorded and released three full-length CDs of original compositions. He has performed throughout the Twin Cities at a variety of venues including Rossi’s Blue Star, Sundin Music Hall, the Loring Pasta Bar, Orchestra Hall, Northrop Auditorium, Cafe Maude, the Fine Line, KFAI Radio, Hotel Sofitel, the Riverview Cafe, and the Acadia Cafe.
In 2007, Ben’s passion for flamenco guitar drove him to Barcelona, Spain, where he studied under Catalan virtuoso Juan Ramón Caro at Taller de Músics school of music. A Macalester College graduate in music, Ben has studied with such disparate mentors as jazz educator Joan Griffith, flamenco pioneer Michael Hauser, and guitar iconoclast Gary Lee Joyner. He received an Outstanding Soloist Award at the 2006 UWEC Jazz Festival and was a recent favorite at the Minnesota Guitar Society Flamenco Guitarathon.
Selected Recordings reveals a snapshot of his brightest work over the last decade; ten compositions from this dynamic performer explore everything from flamenco to modern jazz and electric sounds without losing sight of the melody.
