Ever growing. Ever changing. Barb Barton''s new CD "Coming Home" is filled with the balance of life. It is the alchemy of emotion, blending a touch of sadness along with heartfelt happiness. The true nature of her music, as in life, is about coming full circle. It''s all about "Coming Home".
(Lyn Peraino, Program Director, WLNZ Radio, Lansing, Michigan)
"Coming Home" features both originals and some of Barb''s favorite tunes by her favorite songwriters...from Patty Griffin to Pearl Jam to Michael Hedges. Her musicianship shines as she plays most of the instruments on this incredible CD.
Barb''s music is comfortable like a favorite t-shirt, warm as a grandmother''s hug, and when she''s got something serious to say, as powerful as the Great Lakes. A former winner of the Metro Times Best Vocalist in Folk, she has been performing her unique, percussive folk style for over 25 years.
Attending a Barb Barton concert is a little like going to the land of Oz. A performer who imparts intimate wisdom, heart, and courage into her songs and guitar playing, she defies categorization. Her music flows from traditional style to powerful acoustic rock. But it’s her individual charm that attracts and audience. Barton juggles the emotions of her audiences with humor in one hand and tenderness in the other. Her ease to life and empowering sense of independence is contagious. She leaves audiences feeling as though they have been hit by something of the unknown, something that has caused movement with their very soul...
Named “Best Vocalist in Folk” at the Detroit music Awards and “Songwriter of the Year” by the Metro Area Artists and Songwriters Association, Barton has been performing her unique style of music for over twenty-five years. With five recordings behind her (No Shirt Required, From the Eye of Hawk, Live at the Ark, The River (instrumental guitar), Coming Home) and guest appearances on several CDs, she is currently working on her much anticipated 6th recording. Several selections from No Shirt Required are on the soundtrack to the documentary “The Journey of the Chandler/Pohrt Collection”, a film produced by Academy Award winner Sue Marx. Barton was also selected as an Artist in Residence at Isle Royale National Park, where she wrote one of her most popular songs, “My Michigan” (Coming Home).
Indeed this woman is many faceted, but the best way to know Barb Barton is by listening and feeling her music, for that is were her spirit dwells.
