Details:
Niece‘s debut album »It‘s Never Wrong« was recorded by the band in the basement of a church, with no daylight, but glowing hearts.
Mixed by Balz Bachmann and mastered by Dan Suter, »It‘s Never Wrong« consists of 10 self-written songs and a cover version of Frank Sinatra‘s «Pretty Colors».
Dangling its toes in dark green waters, watching the line between the sea and the sky, the record conjures scenes of lucid days and restless nights. With »It‘s Never Wrong«, Niece convey their own melancholic and eclectic definition of pop. Everything is allowed, all the time, forever.
Niece started out in 2001. After having found a rehearsal room just outside Zurich, Switzerland, Beat Cadruvi (bass, organ) and Reto Schmid (drums) started developing their own ideas for songs, resulting in organ-heavy, 8-minute instrumental drones.
A year later, they were invited to write a song for Olaf Breuning''s video »King« (see Videos). Enter Anna Luif (voice, guitar), formerly of Rosebud: the collaboration on the song »Man, Machine« worked so well that Anna became a full member of the band. Her voice and her chords made the subsequently written songs more accurate, more focused and more emotional.
The band started recording what was to become »It‘s Never Wrong« with their own equipment. It was an extensive work in progress trying out different textures, defining a distinct musical approach and thus slowly getting to the core of the songs.
