Details:
Ellis Reed is a 5-piece band from Philadelphia, Pa.
An offering of eclectic amplified acoustic music with roots in folk influenced by rock with touches of bluegrass and a little blues - music that deconstructs the things we are and feel into a nice 3-5 minute package of sound, soul, and thought. They combine soulful vocals with 2 and 3 part harmonies, dynamic hand percussion, driving rhythm guitar topped by an interlace of guitar, mandolin, and fiddle.

They also wear tight clothing when they play (not on purpose)

A good description of their sound would be Jefferson Airplane meets Gillian Welch with a little X, Fairport, and Norman Blake thrown into the mix.

The project Still Life was recorded over a one year period and covers the first song written by the band up to some of the most recent songs.

1 – Crossed – An Upbeat Appalachian Old Timey tune featuring old time harmony and fat flatpicking. What the Blue Sky Boys would have done if they had digital recording equipment. (and if one of them was a woman)

2 - See Me Through - A Traffic-esque blues type tune with some solid suburban blues jammin'' in the back quarters with some art deco blues fiddle. Of course there actually isn''t any standard blues in the song.

3 – Good Light – A song in the vein of CSN meeting X. This song has guitar with a Tony Rice feel and has a (for us) psychedelic jam ending.

4 – Still Life – Mid Tempo (yet driving) Country (yet Folk) with an interweaving guitar (yet mandolin) part swimming (yet floating) through.

5 - Ballad of the Strangle Motel - Portrait of life at one of the many fine INDEPENDENT motels set on once scenic Route 130. To this we add a nice Blake/Rice guitar lead. Check your speakers with a UV light after this one. (I''ve seen this motel up close)

6 – Half Of Empty – A slower song in a lonely key. This song has an “dying sun” feel followed by a fast duel between fiddle and mandolin. Almost an emo freebird or "freemobird". (would a freemobird fly or just hop around with it''s beak pointing downward)

7 - Whatever You Want - CSNY-esqueish rythm guitar followed by singer/songwriter-ine lyrics in the fashion of an acoustic rock-out session.

8 - Too Unwell - What if X and Janis Ian met for lunch, covered an Ellis Reed song, and then realized that they had both forgotten their wallets to pay for the previously mentioned lunch? It would sound like this guy.
