MP3 Eloquent Edge - The November Sessions

An eclectic mix of progressive rock, jazz fusion and blues. Imagine Rush, Weather Report, and the Trans Siberian Orchestra meeting at a Bela Fleck concert and they all decided to jam after the show. Eloquent Edge is what that jam would sound like.

Details:
Eloquent Edge is a jazz/fusion/rock band from Ottawa, Canada featuring Bob Ross on bass, Bruce Corian on guitar, Carol Landry on piano and synths and Pat Ross on drums. Drawing from an eclectic mix of influences ranging from Rush and Weather Report to Pat Metheny, Bela Fleck, and the Trans Siberian Orchestra, the band creates a sound that is best described as ''unique yet familiar''.

Brothers Bob and Pat Ross cut their teeth playing the competitive Montreal club scene during the 1990''s with several bands, including a famous run with We''re Easy, alongside Bruce Corian and vocalist Marco Laposta, while Carol Landry''s background is decidedly classical. Besides being an excellent pianist/keyboard player she is also an accomplished sax player, and is a former member of the Governor General of Canada''s Footguard CC marching band.

Originally, the band was a trio consisting of Bob, Pat and Carol. The three first played together as volunteer supporting musicians for a children''s choir, and some time during the fall of 2007, they began revisiting some of the hymns they played during the choir gig with a view to turn them into more progressive, jazz-influenced pieces. In addition, they began writing new, original material, with an emphasis on composition and musicianship, and covered the occasional jazz standard as well.

Recognizing that they had effectively become a jazz-fusion band, the trio began a long search for a guitarist to round out the missing elements in their sound. It was in November of 2008 that old friend Bruce put an end to that search by assuming guitar duties for the project. Bruce''s stellar talent and creativity have been on display for years, with Montreal goth-metal masters Thunder Rider as well as his wide-ranging solo work, and his jump to jazz was predictably seamless and effortless.

The band is currently putting the finishing touches to their debut CD ''The November Sessions'', which God willing should be available in the spring of 2009, both online and in local stores. Look for show dates at around the same time. And of course during all this, new material for next year''s follow-up CD (tentatively titled ''Crucify Me'') is being written and collected.
