"Johnny Jump Up" continues DruidSong''s exploration of tradition Celtic music. Again, I draw primarily from traditional sources or those that follow the old patterns. The works presented here are Irish and Scottish. (A note to my Welsh cousins - I''m working on it...)
Celtic music is fascinating. The songs run from comedic to romantic to tragic. Drinking always seems to be a favorite theme for Irish music, along with tunes remembering the various rebels and rebellions that have marked the history of Ireland.
The album really does explore the breadth of the Celtic music experience, I think. there are a couple of songs about drinking, several about rebels, some that poke fun at things near and dear to the hearts of the Celts and a bit of romance.
It was a surprise to me that this is the CD I''m releasing now. What I had in mind for my second album was a bit different. (You can check the DuidSong web site for a bit more about that.) When my sound man (hi, Lou!) and I started reviewing the recordings we done over the course of a couple of weeks, this album just sort of fell into place and we decided to go with it.
Lou, the sound man, tries very, very hard to preserve the fell of live performance in our recordings. I think he succeeds wonderfully, and I really appreciate his efforts. Studio recording can sound dead and overly engineered at times.
At any rate, here''s "Johnny Jump Up". Enjoy yourself listening. I had fun putting it together.
