Dream Flight 101: Bedtime Fears Go Away with Willy Monster
By Patti Teel
I want to introduce you to a new super hero—a good, kind and brave friend of mine named Willy Monster. Together, Willy Monster and I have visited countless schools, telling the story entitled, Dream Flight 101. And now for the first time, I’m releasing the story as an audio recording, complete with character voices, music and sound effects. The story features a little boy named Stephen--and of course, Willy Monster himself.
In addition to being wildly entertaining, its purpose is to help children to courageously face and overcome their fears--whether it’s an imaginary monster, or a bully at school. I recommend it for age’s five to ten. Three and four your olds, who whole-heartedly believe in monsters, could find it scary.
The way we deal with fears as children often affects how we deal with them as adults. Completely avoiding our fears is likely to increase, rather than diminish them. For example, a fear of drowning is not likely to lessen by avoiding water, a fear of flying is not going to go away by avoiding airplanes, and a fear of school is not going to go away by allowing a child to stay home.
But once we actually face a fear, we almost always find it’s not as scary as we’d imagined. And so it is with Stephen, a little boy who with the help of Willy Monster, stands up to the dreaded Nightmare Boogey Monster. And when he does, like most bullies, the nightmare boogey monster turns and runs away.
I can honestly tell you that this story has been kid tested and that children love it. I hope that your child does too!
