Details:
Rory Collins is a singer/songwriter/guitarist based in New Orleans, LA. His music is best described as acoustic based pop-rock, influenced by a wide variety of solo artists such as Edwin McCain, Joshua Kadison and Dido. According to Siren Song Magazine, “Rory’s music features a strong, folksy sound; the acoustic notes he plays fill the air with a sincere sound. His lyrics are simple and occasionally tinged with religious references, but there’s a sadness found in even his most hopeful songs. It’s a plaintive cry that fills his voice and every word he sings.”
Rory grew up in the suburbs of New Orleans where his father’s love of music made an impression on him. Collins started playing guitar at age 14 and he honed his musical skills in a high school garage band called ‘Mom’s Warehouse’. Rory eventually received a Bachelor’s degree in Recording Industry from Middle Tennessee State University. Many of his fellow students were musicians and writers who influenced and inspired him to develop a passion for songwriting. With his college days behind him, Rory regularly performed at ‘writer’s nights’ around Nashville and eventually formed a new band called ‘The Moment Kings’.
Today, Rory is a solo artist in the New Orleans area who still plays and writes for the pure enjoyment of it. Collins recently completed work on his first full production album titled ‘The Sky’s The Limit’. All 10 songs were written, performed and produced by Rory, except for 2 songs that were produced by the talented Nick Nokes of Smithville, TN. Most of the songs were produced at Rory’s home studio in his Garden District apartment. Collins’ father, Everett, assisted in the mixing, mastering and artwork of the album.
As for his instruments, Rory’s newest and most favorite guitar is a crimson-colored ‘Guild’ (featured on the cover of his CD), while his collection also includes a ‘Washburn’ acoustic, ‘Fender Jaguar’, ‘Gibson Invader’, ‘Fender Musicmaster’ bass, an Epiphone mandolin and a Russian balalaika. When he’s not working on music, Rory’s other hobbies include a passion for genealogy and an addiction to kickball…
