Sydney born singer/songwriter
Robin Lee Sinclair first appeared on the Australian music scene in the early 70''s when, at the age of 17, his first solo recording reached number 19 on the Sydney charts. Robin went on to form his own band, attaining a residency at the Musicians Club in Sydney, and drawing record crowds for a period of 18 months.
1975 saw Robin touring Australia and cruising the South Sea Islands before forming the highly successful Sydney band Squeeze in the early part of 1976. The release of several singles and the band''s debut album The Squeeze is On! were well received and achieved impressive sales, particularly in Germany and the Scandinavian countries.
As a result of numerous national television appearances, Robin was invited to do a screen test for the Grundy Organization which won him acting parts in the Young Doctors and Glenview High.
Robin left Squeeze in 1978 to resume a solo career, releasing the album Let it Take You which he wrote, arranged and produced himself. This album was later released in the UK on the BBC''s own label.
Several of Robin''s songs have been covered by performers such as Canadian Patrick Norman, Dinah Lee and New Zealand''s Queen of Pop, Tina Cross. His writing and production credits also included scores for film and television.
In the early 80''s Robin teamed up with singer/guitarist Greg Young to form the country music duo Sinclair & Young. This alliance resulted in two more successful years of recording and live performance.
Another solo recording was released in 1985. The single, consisting of reworked versions of two previously released Squeeze songs, re-established Robin Lee Sinclair as a solo singer/songwriter. In 1986 he composed and recorded two albums of "New Age" music, The White Light Collection Volumes 1 and 11. During the same year, Robin joined the Australian Academy of Dramatic Arts as singing teacher and musical director, as well as starting his own teaching studio in the Sydney suburb of Ryde
For the past eight years Robin has been performing country rock with his band in and around the Sydney circuit, and has attracted a considerable following among country music fans.
In July 1999, Robin joined the Roy Orbison Tribute Show, revelling in the opportunity to pay homage to his all-time favourite singer and childhood inspiration. And now, after a hugely successful eight years on the Sydney club circuit and the release of a Big O tribute CD, he now looks forward to touring nationally before setting his sights on the US of A.
Robin Lee Sinclair''s new CD, Live and Kickin'' (featuring highlights from recent live club performances) is now available on the Lariat label.
His latest CD of all original material is titled “Works for Me”, and features twelve self-penned songs which emphasise Robin’s versatility as a songwriter.
Robin is now concentrating on promotiing his “Country Gold Show", which chronicles the history of country music from its roots in the early fifties through to the new millennium.
