Eduardo Martinez Arvilla began his music studies at the School of Fine Arts (Escuela de Bellas Artes) in his native Cartagena (Colombia). Upon his graduation from the school, Eduardo furthered his studies with masters in traditional Afro-Colombian folklore and music, including Paulino Salgado Valdez (Batata III), Gabriel Torregloza, Jose Lara, Encarcacion Tobar, Wilmer Arias and Fernando Mosquera among many others. Since then, Mr. Martinez has become not only a highly regarded drummer and gaitero, but also a well known researcher and teacher. As a performer, he has accompanied, recorded and/or toured with all of the major luminaries of Afro-Colombian folklore, including Estefania Caicedo, Toto La Momposina, Petrona Martinez, Ballet Nacional de Colombia, Leonor Gonzalez Mina and Francisco Zumaque as well as popular music artists such as Chelito D''Castro, Grupo Madera de Venezuela, Diego Valdes and international sensation Shakira. A sought after educator, Eduardo has given seminars on Afro-Colombian percussion and folklore in universities and cultural centers in South America, Europe and the United States. He currently resides in Los Angeles (California).

Nacido en la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), Eduardo Martinez Arvilla inició sus estudios de música en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de esta ciudad. Eduardo amplió sus conocimientos musicales y de tradiciones bajo la tutela de grandes maestros del folklore Afro-Colombiano como Estefanía Caicedo, Paulino Salbado Valdez (Batata III), Gabriel Torregloza, José Lara, Encarnación Tobar, Wilmer Arias y Fernando Mosquera entre otros. Su labor de músico lo ha llevado a tocar, grabar y/o girar con grandes luminarios del folklore y la música popular, incluyendo a Estefanía Caicedo, Totó La Momposina, Petrona Martínez, el Ballet Nacional de Colombia, Leonor Gonzalez Mina, Chelito D''Castro, Grupo Madera de Venezuela, Francisco Zumaqué, Diego Valdés y Shakira entre muchos otros. Ademas de ser un respetado percusionista y gaitero, es ampliamente conocido como investigador y folklorista y ha dictado seminarios de percusión Afro-Colombiana en universidades y conservatorios en América del Sur, Europa y Estdos Unidos. Eduardo reside actualmente en la ciudad de Los Angeles, California (Estados Unidos).
