"Sophisticated pop that fuses Eastern and Western music influences into a seamless whole that only an exceptional talent can pull off!" - Evolution of Media USA.
Created in 2003, Xenovibes [foreign+expressions] began as the sonic melange of "Singapore''s 1st and only diva of the theremin" Shueh-li Ong. Conjoining her Australian-Asian heritage with her classical-music technology training, the sound is also the ‘stage’ on which Ong, a female in the male-dominated progressive music world, lets down her hair in virtuosic synthesizer performance.
Xenovibes has become synonymous with the faces of Ong and her partner, John Anthony Martinez, who has been the group’s other core touring member since its premier in Singapore in 2004. 2004 witnessed the release of “Shueh-li’s Xenovibes” the CD and the show ideal. The role of the CDs was to bear Ong’s sound design, composition and studio production style whilst the shows carried the passion and aggression of live performance techniques.
"Ong “plays” the studio like a musical instrument... an inspired artist who has brought fresh ideas in the theremin field." - https://www.tradebit.com ITALY
Ong’s sophomore CD “Music From Another Land” with Martinez on drums, garnered a full page profile in the Feb ‘08 issue of Electronic Musician;
"No Barriers - The International Synth Pop of Xenovibes : What do you get when you mix synthesizers, theremins, traditional folk instruments and electronic drums with a multitalented, multicultural, classically trained keyboardist (with a degree in electronic music) and a New York jazz drummer? The answer is Xenovibes!"
- Mike Levine, Executive Editor/Senior Media Producer EM.
In this 3rd offering "Xing Paths", Xenovibes diehards will still be treated to Ong''s finesse in binding ethnic+cyber+classical+pop but soaked in the sounds of America. “Xing Paths” is a new dimension to Ong’s palette, and as the name implies, a visit into her and Martinez''s meeting of the minds; grown richer from experiencing each other''s musical bent.
Without stepping on each other''s toes, Martinez once again provides sensitive rhythmic undulations on Ong''s numbers, while Ong makes herself at home with her theremin, voice, tin-whistle, exotic synth programming and delicately powerful solos on these and the three pieces Martinez was invited to contribute.
Also appearing on “Xing Paths” are bassist Curtis Randall, band director of Grammy winner Leanne Rimes during the height of her career, and musician extraordinaire Dean Parks, arguably one of the most recorded guitarists with a triple decade career.
The sound of Xenovibes is still progressive, still electronic and very much alive!
