MP3 Gina Morresi - Secret Diaries of the Virgin Whore
Rocker Chic meets Bohemian Soul. Virgin meets Whore. Sheryl Crow meets Pink. This about sums up my music. Sometimes, I am the girl next door, who reflects upon life and writes sweet melodies. Other times, I''m the girl you''d rather not bring home to mom.

Meshing together the thoughtful, yet playful tendencies of Sheryl Crow with the grungy, edgier qualities of Joan Joan and Chrissy Hynde, Gina Morresi, along with the help of the Churchill producing team, has created a musical concoction of self-discovery; a work in progress, if you will, that describes the peeling back of layers, to reveal an artist, a woman, a friend, a lover, and a human being. Secret Diaries of the Virgin Whore dives into a number of musical genre pools, by blending catchy, tongue and cheek pop songs that parallel the likes of the Donnas and Kelly Clarkson with story-telling folk-alt-country based music that Dylan and Lucinda would enjoy. In addition, the album also reveals, in smaller doses, the inner-tortured rocker, ala Alanis Morrisette and Pink that is dying to break free from Morresi, while also showing glimmers of the Jimmy Buffet-beach bum that lies within her.
Appropriately, the album was contrived and recorded in Long Branch, NJ, during a time of rebirth for the NJ shore. Morresi, a Jersey girl at heart, seems to reflect this bittersweet resurrection in her music; the Asbury park carousel, with its decaying features eating away at the ponies, only allowing bursts of pinks and blues of its hey-day to peek through, sits idly, awaiting its final demise. Although its demolition will pave way for new life, it represents a time, a generation, a history …The carousel, like Morresi’s music, has many layers, and on a deeper level, represents the sweetness of childhood mixed with the darkness of neglect and the struggle of letting go and moving into uncharted territories.
Secret diaries of the virgin whore takes listeners on a musical journey such as this, using pop-rock hooks, nostalgic images of growing up, and thoughtful lyrics about longing and self-reflection, to illustrate the concept that there is a little virgin and whore in all of us (good and bad, push and pull, hope and fear, progress and neglect) that is constantly present as we try to figure out who we are. By using her raspy, bohemian rock-styled voice, Gina is able to explore different styles of music that allow her to fully develop the ideas of: letting go of the past, heartbreak, envy, identity, and embracing both the good and bad (or misunderstood) parts of ourselves, with an honest and playful, yet pointed approach.
