After years of hard work and stumbling attempts down their own musical paths, Aaron Stevens and Grace Sullivan stripped away the bonds of fear and self-doubt and plunged headlong into new waters. They formed themselves into the duo, Goldfinch. Things started feeling right: sharing the writing and creating of their songs while at the same time walking together as family through the myriad of life experiences that shaped the songs themselves.
It was good.
After a year spent retooling old songs and creating entirely new ones as well, they headed to Pacific Studios in Tacoma along with a small horde of talented musician friends to lay down in 7 days what would become the culmination of two musicians’ life’s journeys… scraping together a new destiny.
The eleven songs on the self-titled release are the debut of something new, built on the rubble of something past. With a stripped down, naked recording approach they worked to capture the sense of humanness (flawed and delicate) that is so often lost in endless rounds of editing rooms. Vocals were recorded standing side by side, the real sound of people singing together preferred to perfect takes recorded in isolation.
