Details:
Mark has been making up songs and improvising since child hood. He is self taught on the flute, which he picked up in his twenties. Playing for dance classes at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, allowed him to work his way to a BA in Theater Arts at that school.
Within a couple years he was performing jazz in clubs around the Philadelphia area on a regular basis and playing for a variety of dance classes. "Elemental Flute" was recorded during this period.
There followed a period of disillusionment with the music business. For over 20 years he played infrequently, and in public only for family and friends upon request.
Then in 2007, his flute was being worked on. While he waited for the work to be completed, his flute technician suggested he try a wood head joint on his silver flute. He fell in love with the sound of wood and was inspired to purchase a wood flute and began daily playing again. This led to a series of concerts.
"Flute Meditations" and "Flutescapes: Live At The Philly Fringe" were both self-produced in 2008.
Mark also became interested in the acoustic qualities of flute sound production, and currently has several patent applications for parts of the flute head joint.
