Details:
Max Greenhood is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter currently based out of Harrisonburg, Virginia. With a style comparable to an upbeat, alternative-folkified version of the early work of The Shins, Greenhood’s minimalist acoustic sound achieves a warm mixture between the neo-folk twang and the eclectic tones of today’s indie music scene. On top of his vocal melodies, powerful strumming rhythms and delicate picking techniques on the guitar, Greenhood’s sound is enhanced by his use of the rarely seen harmonica-and-guitar pair, appropriately adding a certain depth and mood, whether it be haunting or jovial, to his music. Lyrically, Greenhood takes after the narrative style made famous by artists like Bob Dylan, returning to the lost art of storytelling to comment on human nature, the human experience and existence through both his fictional and his autobiographical tales. Similar to virtually every songwriter to emerge since 1965, Greenhood cites Dylan as an influence alongside artists like Ryan Adams and Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst, and bands like The Avett Brothers and Counting Crows.

Greenhood has recently released his debut full-length album “Wanderlust” and plans to support it throughout Virginia’s Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, and Richmond areas before an east coast summer tour set to begin this July. The March release of the 14-track “Wanderlust,” currently playing on James Madison University’s WXJM Radio, has been met with praise throughout the music community, receiving nearly 1,500 plays in it’s first week on Myspace Music and selling close to 100 songs during a three-day promotional release on iTunes. The album is also supported by a line of promotional posters and stickers all designed and drawn by Greenhood himself, an accomplished visual artist alongside his music career. Though music has always come first, his work has sold in upwards of three hundred dollars a piece and has been showcased in a national exhibition in Washington DC’s Grand Central Station in addition to numerous smaller exhibitions in the state of Virginia. “Wanderlust” is set to officially go live on iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby and other online retailers this May.

A rare breed, Max Greenhood has been writing and performing music since he was fourteen years old, a major contributing factor to the level of maturity and complexity the young songwriter brings to his music and incorporates into his lyrics. Since then, Greenhood has written over one hundred songs and has added the knowledge of bass guitar, mandolin, and harmonica to his repertoire. Now, with all the CDs pressed and packaged, Max Greenhood turns his attention towards supporting the release of his new album “Wanderlust,” playing and singing all along the way.
