Whiskey Chimp Releases Third Album Titled “Barely Right Now”.
Ventura, California, April 2009
They’ve been called outrageously entertaining, extremely talented, unpredictable, hilarious, immature, ground-breaking, amazing, perplexing, combustible and even a few things that can’t be printed in the local paper. The seven simians are back, and they mean the complete opposite of business. April, 2009, Whiskey Chimp releases its new CD, Barely Right Now.
The word “Barely,” as defined, means “only just; scarcely; almost not.” Keeping that in mind, the Chimp (as their fans affectionately call them) is proud and slightly amazed that they managed to bring seven guys together long enough to create a third album. As one member is often heard exclaiming, “Being in a band is like herding cats.” Well, these cat-like simians have done it again. Barely Right Now captures all of the irreverence, joviality, and talent together in one highly entertaining record. And like usual, they recorded the album live in order to retain the essence of their raucous live shows.
The new record features: Tecate - a song dedicated to that cute little red can, Smile as Big as Texas – a tribute to mom, Bridge and a River – a gorgeous, Patsy Cline inspired ballad, Loosen your Bible Belt – for getting your gospel on, Northbound 101 – memories of driving the California highways homeward, For Better or Worse – the ode to marriage, and many more.
Whiskey Chimp is: Chris Cairns on banjo (Chris Cairns Band, Porch Dogs), Toby Emery on mandolin (Jackass, Raging Arb), Bill Flores on accordian/clarinet/dobro/fiddle (The Tatters, Porch Dogs), Stanley Gonzales on ukulele (Sykotik Sinfoney, Ukulaliens), Brent Harding on upright bass (Deke Dickerson, Social Distortion), Mark Parson on fiddle (Flambeau, Fernest Arceneaux) and Cory Scrivner on guitar (The Barrel Dodgers).
The band’s website has received an enviable overhaul by the band’s “eighth member,” Lawton Howell, who also took the photo featured on the new CD cover. Photos, reviews, information, clips and more. https://www.tradebit.com
The fans say it best:
“Starting from very traditional bluegrass, they may venture deep into punk rock roots or tangent off into a rousing mariachi ballad. Whiskey Chimp’s repertoire of refreshing original material and choice cover songs delightfully violate all rules of engagement. Their simian stage antics and electrifying performance keep audiences entertained throughout the night. From their first song to their encore, it is very apparent that these boys are having a blast.”
“A rare blend of heart, soul, wit and talent…”
“Whiskey Chimp’s music is based in rich harmonies, insightful and oft cleverly comical lyrics and crisp instrumentations performed with both masterful skill and schoolboy glee.”
“…punk rock, rockabilly, country, bluegrass, norteno, Cajun and Aerosmith covers.”
With this eclectic blend of talent and personality, Whiskey Chimp is storming the roots music scene!
“Whiskey Chimp plays music the way life should be led; with passionate zeal.”
