Calvin Mackey, Lead Vocal and Background Vocalists: Mariah & Maya Highsmith, Arianna & Isaac Mackey, Kiree Martin and Jete’ Slaughter
Have you ever marveled at a smiling toddler, singing on stage? Calvin is the current 6 foot, 14 year old version of the toddler that used to be. In April 2008, Calvin James Mackey began writing lyrics and melody for his first worship CD, entitled: “Created to Worship.” He auditioned and selected the youth that would make-up his fellow vocalists: Mariah & Maya Highsmith, Isaac & Arianna Mackey, Kiree Martin & Jete'' Slaughter. C2W’s purpose: To show youth real relationship with Christ through worship and how to regain their youth through fun and celebration.
Calvin lives with his parents and siblings in Virginia. He attended Calvary Christian School System (CCSS) where Dr. B. Courtney McBath & Janeen McBath are Founders, for a total of 10 years.
Calvin gave his life to Christ at the age of 4. His brother Isaac and sister Arianna, likewise, gave their lives to Christ, at the same age. Calvin has spiritual ties to his parents’ previous home church, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va., where he was prayed for as an infant and the Lord spared his life at 19 weeks in utero. He has attended Calvary Revival Church (CRC), Norfolk, Va., since the age of one and has been blessed by CRC ministries ever since.
Calvin’s academic career includes A & A/B honor roll, Character Awards, Science Fair 1st place awards, Future City local and regional competition awards, CCSS & Association of Christian Schools International Awards in Math, Science & Reading, Global Elementary Model United Nations Ambassador & Delegate (2000 – 2004), NA Latin, Reading and Science awards, University of Virginia Summer Enrichment Physics attendee, 2008.
Calvin’s community service, activities and vocal ministry includes: Graduate of Train to Abstain with CRC & Pastors Mark & Dawn Lawrence, Rites of Passage student with CRC and Ministers Anton Bell & Anthony Bass, CRC’s Children of Destiny Choir & Judah Choir, Minister Willie & Terri Copeland, Titia Stillwell, Ruby Pool, music mentor & transcriptionist for Created to Worship CD, Virginia Mass Choir vocalist with Minister Earl Bynum, Elderess Peggy Britt and Aisha McCullah, Volunteer for Ready Academy Summer Program 2007, NA Sailing, CCSS Basketball, NA Track & Field, CCSS & NA Drama cast selections; CRC solo vocal ministry opportunities.
Calvin enjoys thinking… He desires to be a Godly example for other youth his age. Calvin also enjoys helping others and thrives on challenges, new opportunities, science & music. Calvin’s primary career goal is to be an astronaut.
Mariah is an A/B honor roll student. At the age of 3, Mariah, now a ninth grader and her sister, were in a movie called, “The Wedding” produced by Oprah Winfrey where the girls played Halle Berry’s nieces. In 2007, she was featured in another movie called, “Kids, Cliques, and Games,” in addition to other commercials, she was featured in such as; Grand Furniture and Dollar Tree.
In 8th grade, Mariah won the 2008 President’s Award for Education, signed by President George W. Bush. She also achieved Principal’s List, receiving all A’s on her report card.
Mariah and her family attend Calvary Revival Church where she participates in the Youth Choir, Judah. Mariah has a personal relationship with God and has a heart for people, to lead them to Christ. When she completes college, Mariah is seeking a career in the fashion industry.
Maya was 7 years old when she gave her life to Christ and has loved God ever since. She attends Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, Virginia, where Bishop B. Courtney McBath and Pastor Janeen McBath have pastored for over 18 years.
Maya’s academics consist of A & B honor roll, since elementary school. When Maya was 3 years old, she and her sister starred as Halle Berry’s nieces, in the movie, “The Wedding.” The Wedding was produced by Oprah Winfrey. Maya enjoys modeling and taking pictures. She is a very fun and outgoing person. She also enjoys singing in her church’s youth choir, Judah.
Arianna is enjoying her place in C2W ministry. She, like Isaac, refuses to miss a rehearsal. Her gifts and talents include drama, acting and improvisation. Arianna also enjoys singing, dancing, music, time with friends, track and field, reading, cooking and computer games.
Arianna’s academic career includes Superior and Proficient Academic marks, Citizenship Awards, Science Fair awards, CCSS & Association of Christian Schools International Awards in Science & Reading, Physical Education, Music and Art awards.
Arianna’s community service and other activities include: CRC’s Children of Destiny Choir, Minister Willie & Terri Copeland, Sis. Sandra Brown, Adnawuhs Drama Ministry, CRC with Sis. Shuwanda Bryant, AAU track and field, Va. Beach, Coach Washington, Ballet and Dance with the Gail Harts Dance Studio, Sis. Jones, CCSS Dance and the Virginia Ballet Theatre, Norfolk, Virginia, CCSS Chapel performances and Lower School Chorus and Art Clubs.
Isaac gave his life to Christ at the age of 4. Isaac’s academic career includes A/B honor roll, Citizenship Awards, Science Fair 1st place awards, CCSS & Association of Christian Schools International Awards in Science & Reading, Global Elementary Model United Nations Ambassador & Delegate (2002 – 2004 & 2009).
Isaac’s community service, activities and vocal/mime ministry includes: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King speech recitation for Norfolk Senior Citizens, Rites of Passage student with CRC and Minister Anton Bell, CRC’s Children of Destiny Choir & Judah Choir, Minister Willie & Terri Copeland, CCSS Basketball, NCS soccer, CCSS Drama cast selections and mime solo opportunities. Isaac has served on the BCM ministry, Children in Training and has been selected to help maintain the Audio/Visual Ministry in the CRC Youth Life Building.
Isaac enjoys inquisition… He desires to be a Godly example for other youth his age and to win people for Christ. Isaac also enjoys helping and others and thrives on relationships with others, new opportunities, science & music. Isaac’s primary career goal is to be a pilot in the United States Air Force.
Kiree Malik Martin lived in New York, with his mother, Redies Martin, until age eleven. After prayer his family decided it would be best for Kiree to continue his education in the State of Virginia, under his sister, Contina Martin.
After moving to Virginia he began attending Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, Virginia and while in a Christian Education Ministry class, Kiree gave his life to the Lord, at age twelve. Kiree now serves in the Praise, Worship, and Arts Judah Ministry at CRC.
Currently, Kiree is a senior. He aspires to attain an advanced diploma with honors on June 11, 2009. Kiree has received several awards for his participation in All-City and District Chorus performances. He is also a member of his High School’s Varsity Choral and track team.
After completing high school, Kiree will continue to pursue his passion for music and ministry. His primary goal is to attend college to acquire knowledge in the area computer software design. Kiree is truly loved by his family and friends, all of whom have had the honor of watching him grow into a young man of integrity. His compassionate heart and willingness to serve have afforded him the opportunity to positively influence the lives of many young people.
Jete’ is a junior in her 3rd year of a Health Science Academy. She is a 3 year Cheerleader and Swim team member. Joining the Drama club its first year back in the school, Jete’ is a 2 year Drama Club. As a junior, Jete’ has toured several colleges. Maintaining a 3.7 GPA will aid Jete’ in her desire to become a Pediatric Surgeon.
Jete’ is also an active member of her church, Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, VA under the leadership of Senior Pastor Bishop B. Courtney McBath. Jete’ accepted Christ as her Savior, Jete’ gave her life to the Lord at 5 years old, and was later baptized in the summer of 2007. She is an active member of her church’s choir, participating from the children’s choir ministry (Children of Destiny; C O D), children’s drama ministry to presently the youth choir ministry (Judah) and dance ministry (Sacred). Having completed Children in Training (C .I .T.) at Calvary Revival Church, equipped and prepared Jete’ to volunteer in children’s ministry in her church. She volunteers in infant and toddler ministry (Baby Samuel), and the children’s choir ministry(C O D) at her church. Jete has completed God’s Exclusive Maid Servant’s (G.E.M.S.) and is a 2005 graduate of Trained to Abstain through Calvary Revival Church with Pastors Mark and Dawn Lewis. She continues to participant in training offered through her church. Jete’ appreciates the support and love of her church family.
Jete’ resides with her family. She is the oldest of three children. Jete’ enjoys good food and fellowship with her friends and family. She believes every day is an opportunity to demonstrate her worship to God through the life she lives not just the songs she sings.
