MP3 Sleepy Tom - Crash
Sounds like the rusty guitar notes and heavy work tools of a delta sharecropper sliding around and crashin together in the shed with some ideas that Kerouac and Rimbaud gave me and my voice that I got from my dad and my Charlie Patton records.

Details:
I am originally from Veazie, a small town next to Bangor, Maine. I met a singer songwriter there when I was 18. She spent summers on the coast of Maine and then in the winter she traveled south living in a milk truck. I traveled with her playing a few bars along the way and ended up in Durham, NC. I moved to Durham and got into the local blues and roots music scene. I played guitar with North Carolina Piedmont bluesman Big Boy Henry and some others. I worked in a couple bands with Slewfoot, a street singer from New Orleans and with a washtub bass, harmonica and washboard player. For the past while I''ve been writing and recording mostly alone or with my wife, Elizabeth.

LYRICS:
BOUND FOR WAR
God ain’t gonna stop this train
Rumblin’ on an endless track
Runs on the fears of men
We built it then we got revenge
God ain’t gonna stop this train
Gotta do it with our bleeding hearts
This train is bound for war
There’s blood money in haulin’ fear
And a hundred years of pain
Bringing you a load of tears
And life is what it takes
God ain’t gonna stop this train
Send the bravest men
This train is bound for war
God ain’t gonna stop this train
The engines burning dreams
Puffin’ out black smoke hate
Loaded down with tears
God ain’t gonna stop this train
Send the strongest men
This train is bound for war
Rumblin’ out there in the dark
Chokin’ on the oil and the blood
Crushin’ the weak and the strong
Grindin’ their bones in the mud
God ain’t gonna stop this train
Gotta do it with our bleeding hearts
This train is bound for war
Fear ain’t gonna stop this train
Can’t do it with a shakin’ hand
Tear up the tracks, be brave
At the border of the children’s land
God ain’t gonna stop this train
Tear up the tracks be brave
This train is bound for war (3x)

DANGEROUS MAN
He twists and he turns
Llike a snake on wet slate
Down the pitch black road
From faith to hate
They gave him directions
He don’t need to understand
Long as they put power
In his weak little hand
Chorus
Heaven knows He’s a dangerous man
Heaven knows He’s a dangerous man
The room full of people
Was quiet and still
With a thirst for power
And an iron will
He’s dancin around
With an axe in his hand
Come dance a little closer
All you enemies and friends
Chorus
Heaven knows He’s a dangerous man
Heaven knows He’s a dangerous man
His thoughts are all blurry
His nerves are like glass
Don’t question his authority
Don’t give him no sass
He threw the bottle and cried
Never again
Now he’s holdin a gun
In his shakin hand
Chorus
Heaven knows He’s a dangerous man
Heaven knows He’s a dangerous man

CLACKMIRE MINE
Ol jim steam runs the clackmire mine
Every man an boy works every mother cries
Know thy cant fight him know they cant move
Diggin his coal is all they can do
Jim steam knows / digging his coal / is all they can do down at the bottom
Lil dave stone grew up working for jim
Lived at the bottom of clackmire ridge
There’s been 20 cave ins in clack mire mines
Dave always got his crew home alive
Lil dave stone / hes a good man to know / down at the bottom
Mama said killin the devil weren’t wrong
Things would be better with jim steam gone
He aint never given none a fair deal
Never gave a miner nothin but a pail
He’s wicked and he’s mean / be better off without him at the bottom
There was a dangerous rumor bout gold in that line
The one that took 19 lives
Jim had to see for himself to be sure
Dave said there aint just take my word
Jim had to see for himself / everyone lies like hell / couldnt even trust his friend / down at the bottom
Lil dave stone gonna make it right
Lil dave stone makin a promise tonight
Gonna take him down let him see for himself
That mine aint gold its black as hell
Lil dave stone / took jim steam / and left him down at the bottom

LEFT ME COLD
Heat is gone / Just smoke in the stack
Heat is gone / Just smoke in the stack
Light turned blue / She aint comin back
Storm is blowin / Ice brung down the wires
Storm is blowin / Ice brung down the wires
Powers out got nothin for the fire
Ahha / No it just aint right
Ahha / No it just aint right
Use my wood / Leave me cold at night
Sittin cold / Got nothin left to burn
Sittin cold / Got nothin left to burn
Starin at the door that slamed after her
Be a cold day / Another lonesome night
Be a cold day / Another lonesome night
She’ll only come back / If she wanna fight
Ahha / No it just aint right
Ahha / No it just aint right
Stole my fire / Left me cold at night
Heat is gone / Just smoke in the stack
Heat is gone / Just smoke in the stack
Light turned blue / She aint comin back

GETTIN ON
I’m gettin on baby one more ride
Do me wrong for the last time
She’s a train without brakes
I’m gonna risk my life
I’m gettin on
Cause she use to be mine
Shoulda got off when I had the chance
The cabs don’t run and it’s a long walk back
I’m gettin on baby how did I know
You’d do me wrong
That’s the way you go
She’s an old roller coaster
Break my neck this time
I’m gettin on
Cause she use to be mine
Shoulda jumped off when I had the chance
Where the L don’t run and it’s a long walk back
(Repeat Verses 1 and 2)

NEEDLE IN MY EYE
Blain he lived with his skeleton half sister,
poor Kathrine she had a face like a Garr
They all said Blaine was not so bad
Just howled at the moon
When it was round
No lie needle in my eye, can still here the sound
Blaine and Kathrine they never went to town, they didnt trust nobody at the bank or the bar, nobody asked where the money come from the money they burried in canning jars
No Lie Needle in my eye,put their money in the ground
My daddy he liked to pester and tease
Said Blaine no joke got a money sniffing hound, Blaine’s face froze, his eyes searched the room, As though he could hear a frightened heart pound
No lie, needle in my eye, my heart began to pound
Come sundown the moon was round
And Blaine’s shadow crossed out porch
His voice was loud, though shakey and unsure, I heard a shot fire and thump on the floor
No lie, needle in my eye, my daddy lay dead by the door
I remmember it this way like it happened yesterday, they gave Blain 111 to life
And when Kathrine was found she was frozen to the ground with a shovel not far from her hand
No lie needle in my eye, she was frozen to the ground
On nights with no moon, we walk to his yard, me ma and our useless old hound
By the lamps dim glow, while our lost hound moans, we search for money in canning jars
No lie, needle in my eye, we’ll dig til the day we die.

GOIN TO NEW ORLEANS
I’m Goin to New Orleans, pack my stuff and I’m gonna leave (2X)
I’ll be listening to a brass band down there on Rampart Street
I’m gonna call J Monkee Dee, Tell me where to find old Slew (2X)
If I can find someone to play the blues with, don’t look for me back home soon
I know I can get a cheap room at the Metro, stands a block from Canal if it aint burned down (2X)
I’ll get a room across the hall from Mustapha, and I can sleep if he don’t play that tub too loud
Let me try a Sazerac, before I tip on down the street (2X)
I think I lost my heart down there in New Orleans

WORTH NOTHIN WITHOUT HER
She’s gonna take the diamonds
She’s gonna take the pearls
She’s gonna hire a lawyer
Take me for all I’m worth
Go on ahead and take me
Take me for all I’m worth
Cause I ain’t worth nothin without her
Wreck that car down the road
Burn out house to the ground
It ain’t worth nothin without her
Find me an old hotel
Empty my heart on a girl
Rob me blind in the morning
Just another thing that hurts
Go on ahead and take me
Take me for all I’m worth
Cause I ain’t worth nothin without her
Shootin dice and gamblin
Down to my last dollar
Baby it aint worth cheatin
and it aint worth fightin over
Go on ahead and take me
Take me for all I’m worth
Cause I ain’t worth nothin without her
Gonna loose it all at the table
What should I save it for
Cause I ain’t worth nothin without her
A bucket full of nothin
And a shot glass full of tears
That’s what I been saving
for her all these years
I aint leaving nothin
when i leave this world
Cause I ain’t worth nothin without her
I aint leaving nothin
when i leave this world
Cause I ain’t worth nothin without her
I aint leaving nothin
when i leave this world
Cause it ain’t worth nothin without her
