Since being introduced to music writing and performance at an early age, fienix (Chris Nelson) found an undeniable passion for the art. After 20 years and half as many albums, this passion for creating music is still there.
Chris always seems to be traveling the music world from genre to genre picking up scraps of melodies and sounds only to then paste them together in a musical painting that reminds the listener of some place familiar but entirely eclectic. He is able to write songs with the honest story telling prowess of Neil Young while still harnessing an air of organic youthfulness not unlike Death Cab For Cutie. But if that''s not enough you can add the hushed smoky tones of alt country much like Calexico and you will start to hear the musical home in which he currently resides.
His latest outing is the first of three records based on a novel he is currently writing. "Even The Leaves On Trees Have Two Sides" takes place in a post human apocalypse on earth where a young man finds himself lost and alone searching for answers to what happened to humanity, his family and ultimately himself. These stories echo Nelsons'' own life and those of friends and family dealing with a new world full of change. This is the first publicly released and performed record by Chris in 5 years and displays a vulnerability and honesty from a still eager musician.
