Details:
David was born in the Black Hills, Lakota Sioux territory. From his birthplace in South Dakota, he has lived in several eastern states as well as California, Colorado and Oregon. He has spent the last 12 years in Arizona, forging relationships and connections with the tribes and people of the southwest.
David started playing saxophone more than 30 years ago. He acquired his first Native American flute while trading at the Taos Pueblo. He began playing transverse flute in 1999, immediately prior to a music tour in Capetown South Africa.
His Native American sounds come from deep connections with the land and people of various tribes, most notably, the Navajo or Dine’ as the people are known. He has traveled widely and enjoyed many experiences on tribal lands throughout Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. Profoundly affected by Native American places and traditions, his music carries a spirit of healing, reconciliation and honor for these people.
In 2003, David moved to Japan, where he spent three years searching out some of the roots of Asian and Native American music. While he was there, he studied Shakuhachi under master Shodo Tabuchi of Kagoshima City.
David plays by invitation at a wide variety of events, from Native American gatherings and outreaches to mainline faith conferences – anywhere that seekers of the Creator’s touch gather.
His music is a product of times that he has spent deep in the presence and glory of the Creator, and ranges from very traditional Native American compositions to weavings of saxophone, world-flutes, Irish whistles, synthesizer, nature sounds and vocals.
