RECOVERY RECORDINGS RE-ISSUES RIVER THROUGH THE SUN
THE DEBUT ALBUM BY SINGER/SONGWRITER PHILIP RODRIGUEZ
Philip Rodriguez writes and performs in a minimalist, old-school, retro-folk music style reminiscent of his three major influences: Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake & Townes van Zandt.
The younger brother of expatriate singer/songwriter, David Rodriguez and the uncle of "Americana Sweetheart," Carrie Rodriguez, Philip''s very personal approach to songwriting is derived from his experience of working in the oil refineries and living in the blue-collar suburbia of southeast Houston, Texas.
His parallel music career actually began while still a teenager performing in the late 1970s at Houston’s renowned singer/songwriter venue, the Old Quarter. What appeared to be a promising career was postponed due to a marriage, then a family and fifteen years in the petro-chemical business.
In 1994, after a failed marriage and a corporate lay-off, Philip decided to pick up where he left off fifteen years prior, and pursue what he felt compelled to do...the second time around.
RIVER THROUGH THE SUN reflects the body of work written in the 1990s and recorded in 1998 during a time when Rodriguez decided to pick up his guitar again, after a long hiatus and bring his music back to the forefront of his life. Philip Rodriguez currently resides and performs in the San Jose, California area.
