ATHANASOPOULOS/PIN JAZZ QUARTET
Marcos Pin (guitar) and Thanos Athanasopoulos (saxes) met in Holland during their studies at the royal conservatory of the Hague. Soon they developed a personal and musical friendship that led to the founding of this quartet in 2003. Since then, they use this band as a vehicle to work on and perform their own compositions. They kept the band active, performing regularly club dates and festivals in Holland and Spain, although today they live in different countries. In 2007 they recorded their first album together with bassist Paco Charlin and LAR Legido on drums.
Their music is solidly rooted on the tradition of bebop and hardbop but with a fresher sound and harmonic ideas. Warm, melodic, and bluesy it is sometimes reminiscent of Dexter Gordon’s blue note era and sometimes flirts with pop, funk and even 80’s punk rock. Swinging hard all the way these 8 original compositions will definitely keep you listening.
