The initial quest in recording this album was to create a polished demo that would be used to document new material along with some favored standards while featuring a great Montreal rhythm section. With a very limited budget, I hoped to record 5 or 6 songs over a two-afternoon period. Instead, we were able to put 11 separate tracks down (one piece was eliminated).

The title of this CD, "Off the Floor ... Into the Garden" comes from two different sources. ''The Garden'' is one of the original pieces on the album and the phrase, "off the floor", which is often used in a musical context, constitutes the 1-2-3-GO! feeling on this record. With the exception of "Run", no overdubs or edits were applied to the instrumental or vocal tracks on the album. Lastly, the metaphor of a garden also conjures the image of exploring a land of unknown where many things can grow and blossom into sometimes, unpredictable shapes and forms. The nature of our recording session that weekend embodied this sentiment. We hope you enjoy the adventure as much as we did.
