The JaJa''s Bio - How we met, and where the music comes from...
How we met…
Meet Jeanne MacLaughlin, and me, Barb Horton. Together, we are The JaJa''s (pronounced Ya-Yas). We met ten years ago, at a class in the middle of corporate America in Scottsdale, Arizona when I took a seat next to her. Throughout that day, we discovered that meeting was no coincidence. By noon we discovered:
We’re both professional singers
Both have a background in theatre
Our mothers were born 1 day apart in 1936
We both grew up on a street named “Dewey”. “So?” you ask. Jeanne grew up in Wisconsin, and myself in New Jersey.
We’d both been praying for a friend.
We’ve been singing friends ever since.
Where the music comes from…
One day in the winter of 2006, Jeanne gets a call from her friend, Doug. His church was looking to audition a vocalist, and Jeanne asked if she could bring me along, too. When we got there, we made our introductions in the bookstore. As we chatted, the books started catching our attention. Authors like Wayne Dyer, and Deepak Choprah, Miguel Ruiz and others jumped out at us as we realized we stood in the midst of our personal libraries. “What is this place?” we asked. “Unity of Mesa.” said the Reverend Joel Baehr.
We auditioned, and we were hired before we finished the first song. We’ve been singing there ever since (January 2007), and this is where our music is born. Each week, the Reverend and our entire church helps us create the intention of a new song, and pulls the music through us.
Enter four incredible musicians and one extraordinary band…
This is also where we met our extraordinary band: John Chapman on upright bass, Jason Fay on drums, Brian Palmerino on guitar, and Jimmy Boyd on piano. We show up with a chorded lyric sheet at 8am on Sundays, and in less than an hour, this incredible band breathes life and style into the music. We are so blessed by their incredible talent. Greater than the sum of all our parts, together we are…
