Jack + Jill is mostly an acoustic duo that has been performing since their marriage in the summer of 2007. They are a Colorado couple who enjoys and understands the power of ALL music. They love listening to anything... From Upbeat, and Uplifting new world music; from Classical to Bluegrass; Electronica to New Age Pop; all the way down to the most Hardcore Metal and Dirty Punkrock! They have passion for the most unique and bizzare styles imaginable. Truly they have a very versatile ear for music, and faithfully support it 100%. Though the have had much success as a two piece, they have started to incorporate other musicians to play as their back-up band at bigger events. They play all the instruments the band needs, but at their "duo" shows they usually stick to violin, piano, bass, and guitar.
They both have been performing since they were children. Jessica has played the violin since age 4. She has been performing in orchestras, and string ensembles from a very young age. As she grew up, she excelled in her studies and became Concert Master on several occasions for the orchestras. She later taught herself to write her own music and has been writing and creating beautiful arrangements ever since. Growing up, Jessica enjoyed picking up random instruments and learning to play them. She figured the more instruments you learn to play the easier each one becomes.
Aaron has always had a gift for music, but after taking a few piano lessons he soon felt that lessons were not for him. Feeling that he learned better on his own, he started the tasks of teaching himself to play an assortment of instruments. From the bass, to guitar then the piano and drums, he has always had the disipline for self teaching methods. His knack for hearing and repeating melodies and creating harmonies both vocally and with his instruments, is truly his specialty. Although he is mostly self taught, he has since studied music in College. Being confident in his voice and ear, he found that in the many choirs he has performed in, reading music was mostly not needed, so long as he just listened intently and repeated it back well, it was good enough to get him the solo. A trick that would stay with him forever, mastering the vocal similarities of many of his “idols”. Aaron has since gone to college for vocal performance and has sung many operas and arias.
Since their marriage they have put together what is a very versatile album, including the title track “Into the Open” which some say is their master piece to date. The two may not agree though. They believe that all music is power, and all should be taken in, and embraced. Their debut album has definitely shown this. With songs like “Dreams not even formed" which has definite Bjork overtones, and “50 Horror Classics" they really show their love for industrial Nine inch Nails/Skinny Puppy sounds, And while the song “Dwelling on what is Dead” has shown their classical side, it’s “Into the Open“, “Real Eyes Realize”, and “Rocket” that seem to show off their practicality in writing truly beautiful modern, yet timeless, acoustic rock ballads… If you will. And just when you think you’ve heard it all, they show how well they can capture and emotion with their cover of the classic: “You are my Sunshine”. I think Jimmie Davis would be proud, never before has this song come to life. It captures the essence of the long forgotten lyrics that ring true over the minor rendition of what is sure to be the next big hit single of “Into the Open“. Jack + Jill is a band that will stand the test of time, based in family ties, they are here to stay. After listening to their first album, it’s hard to believe that its just two of them, playing in their home, and recording in the most humble of recording studios, in their basement, out west in the high desert of Colorado. They will be a band to recognize, receive and to remember.
