Our music exists because of the tremendous energies of a small but dedicated number of people who are consistently putting forth their best creative works. By the very nature of the eclectic and multi-talented people who comprise the band, BURNT manages to avoid the one-dimensionality so common in the contemporary world of music-art. From hip hop to reggae to punk rock and ska - BURNT has made their home at the crossroads of cultures that is at the heart of underground music- their approach to music-making can only be described as fearless. Without regard for words like genre and image, BURNT dives headfirst into uncharted musical waters. Armed with their musical message of social and environmental justice, BURNT has never hesitated to take the stage on behalf of a wide variety of causes important to them, including: the Save Trestles campaign to save San Onofre State Beach, WildCoast''s Clean Water Now action to save the Tijuana Estuary, UCSD STAND''s ongoing battle to end the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, to benefit the American Cancer Society, TsunamiAid, Katrina Relief and more. In the future, BURNT will continue to wow audiences and listeners around the world with their danceable revolutionary rhythms and consciousness raising rhymes.
Over the course of the past 5 years BURNT has managed to self-produce and compose 4 albums of original music and independently book and promote over 500 shows, including a west coast tour from Mexico to Canada. We have been blessed to perform at several festivals including the Tijuana Ska Festival, the University of California Irvine''s annual ReggaeFest and the El Portal Spring Fling near Yosemite, California. Our music has ben featured on FM Radio stations including 94.9 in San Diego, CA, CHLY101.7FM in Nanaimo, B.C., and on 102.5 XHUAN in Tijuana, Mexico. BURNT has opened for a number of well-respected artists including Barrington Levy, The Fully Fullwood Band (Bass for Peter Tosh), the legendary Skatalites, The Ziggens, the Chris Murray Combo and The Skeletones.
Having been inspired by the D.I.Y. (do it yourself!) philosophy of underground punk and hip-hop music, BURNT has demonstrated themselves to be a motivated group of extremely prolific and diverse people. Our ever-expanding catalog spans across musical boundaries in the sense that we have always taken an organic approach to melody-making. As musicians we are dedicated to the muse--we''re simply trying to write a good song. We''ve spent every dime we could earn and borrow, said goodbye to people we love, and freely spent most of our precious time on this earth for our music. Our story as a band born and raised in Southern California is a coming of age journey. Like all good stories, the story of Burnt is both comedy and drama. In turn, the triumph and tragedy of our individual lives becomes the basis for our music. There have been times when, whether because of human failure or simple happenstance, we have seen our lives in peril and our future uncertain. So far we have been able to survive, blessed by nothing short of divine intervention. In recognition of the blessing, we''ve decided to live life seeking righteousness through consciousness. In this way Burnt can be understood as a family-band of post-modern gypsies; we are musical ambassadors dedicated to diversity and integration.
